    Loved the game, not anymore.

I used to be in love with this game, but here lately I cannot stand it. Finding the right balance in sliders is impossible. I either have games where I get 10 runs easily or get shut out. I either hit 5 HRs a game or strikeout 15 times a game. The CPU either gets 1 or 2 runs or completely destroys me and gets nearly 20 runs a game.

It used to not be like this, but no matter what I try the game just doesn't play like it used to. I am also sick of striking out because I time a pitch perfectly but swing 5 inches over the top of it. Its fine once or twice, but when martin Prado, Jason Hayward, and Chipper Jones all do it in a row on pitches in the strike zone, something is wrong. But if I increase contact anymore I'll be getting 2 hits per inning.

    Gah /rant.

You can't increase the contact slider one tick? Hard to believe it makes that much of a difference.

Re: Loved the game, not anymore.

I've been playing around with classic hitting and it may just be me, but it hits a lot better for me. With total control hitting I was seeing a lot of swings just go over or under the ball all of the time, but it seems with classic hitting if I time it right, I'm going to make contact most of the time if its a hittable ball.

I am also seeing more foul balls with classic hitting. I also think its more realistic to have one standard swing instead of three different ones like total control has, but I guess that is what total control means.

It may just be me, but classic hitting seems a lot more realistic and the game was developed around it.

I think zeroing out composure is a big one when you get everything else close enough that one click either way is too much.

Re: Loved the game, not anymore.

i'm also seeing the same thing, and it's frustrating as hell. like i'm timing it perfectly (no late/early swing indicator) and it's IN the strikezone, AND i've used the left stick to aim my bat to wherever it was in the strikezone, and i still miss it. it happens quite a lot. i was striking out WAY too much with contact slider set at 35, so i had to bump it to 40. still strike out quite a lot, but at least i'm getting a solid 7-10 hits a game on average, with decent power nums.

i don't really want to even try classic hitting, stick hitting seems like the appropiate simulation so i'll stick it out (no pun intended).

Not trying to start an argument or anything, but why do you feel stick hitting is more realistic?

In real life, when I am up to bat I swing the same way every time. I'll make adjustments to the pitch like I should. I'm not going to try and pull a pitch on the outside corner, but I don't go up there with a Power Swing, Contact Swing, and Defensive Swing in mind. I have hit HRs in real life before, and I have hit soft ground balls that caused the SS to charge it to make the play. On both types of hits I swung exactly the same. I swung with the same strength on my dead center HR as I did with my slow roller. The only difference was how much bat I got on the ball and was able to drive it. Thats why i feel classic hitting represents hitting in a more realistic fashion.

first of all i've never tried classic hitting, so i'm a little ignorant on the topic, but i assume it's just pressing a button?

well for starters, i feel pushing the stick forward, as opposed to pressing a button, better simulates swinging a bat right there. secondly, and again keep in mind i don't know about classic hitting, but i feel the left analog stick is HUGE in a better simulation to real hitting. you do not swing the same way on a pitch in real life with a pitch on the outside black, verses the inside black. on the inside you need to pull your elbows in, get the bat head out quicker (simulation of the left analog stick pointing towards that side of the plate). diddo off the outside black, you need to extend your arms more, different swings. same with up and down, your swing plane will generally be different (angled slightly up, or bat head angled slightly down) on high/low pitches.

in terms of the power swing, i think everything you described would pertain to regular contact swing. you can still hit homeruns to dead centre with regular contact swings if you really time it perfectly, sweet spot, etc. but undoubtedly in the majors, real baseball, hitters swing out of their shoetops at times to go for a homerun, which will likely produce a much lower average, but more power (power swing in 2k11). same could be said for just fighting off pitches...they are not the same swing in real life. hitters will see a fastball on the outer edge and they KNOW they can't put it in play b/c well they decided too late whether to swing or let it go, but they will still flail the bat out there to stay alive and hopefully just get a piece of it.

just my opinion...without knowing what classic hitting really entails, lol.

Re: Loved the game, not anymore.

Yea, Classic Hitting is just pressing the A button. But you can also use the left thumbstick to aim your hits, which I also find a bit unrealistic, but realistic at the same time, if that makes sense. Sometimes you want to pull a ball and will do anything to do so, I am very good at this in real life. I can pull anything, but I can't hit backside much at all. So I guess using the left thumbstick to try and pull the ball to hit it into a hole in the shift, or to possibly advance the runner from 2nd to 3rd is a bit realistic, but most of the times a player hits it backside he waits on the ball to get a bit deeper. When you want to pull it you swing earlier. You can easily, well not easily, aim your hits by letting them get deeper, swinging earlier, etc. with Classic Hitting.

As for power swings, MLB players sometimes do swing to hit the ball out of the solar system, but they hardly ever do that. Every single HR I have seen my Braves hit this season was hit by getting the bat on the ball nearly perfectly. I know there are HRs hit when someone is just trying to smack the ball, but I'd say an overwhelming majority is from your normal swing.

yeah i'm not saying it's the correct way, but if you watch my blue jays a little bit, there's quite a few players you will notice (and i wish they didn't as much) swing for the fences (edwin, bautista, hill everynow and then, snyder, wells when he was a jay, etc etc). more often than not, for everyone not named bautista, it usually turned into a lazy pop fly, or a K. but i see it a lot in the majors with undisciplined hitters.

There are things about the game that have bugged me over time that sliders can't fix either. But every game has those issues and we have to accept the fact that no game out there will be perfect. That doesn't mean I'm saying to the op that you should just suck it up. I completely understand what you are saying but you will have to simply make the decision to live with the flaws or get rid of the game.
