base stealing
Maybe I'm braindead, but I'm having serious trouble getting the timing down for stealing bases. I either take off way early and get CS on a throw from the pitcher to second or take off way late and am dead meat at second. Is there a cue I should be watching for? It feels like there's a crazy delay between when I start holding L2 and when the runner takes off. I'm playing as the Mets and getting thrown out with Reyes & Pagan with room to spare. BR speed set at 50 for me, AI catcher arm/acc set at 45/40. Driving me a bit nuts at the moment as the steal needs to be a huge weapon for me to be competitive.Tags: None -
Re: base stealing
You want to take off as soon as the pitcher starts his motion towards the plate. For some pitchers you need to keep an eye on their front leg. For others, their shoulder or head. Basically whatever moves first.
Not sure if you know this or not (it's hard to tell from your post), but you actually take off when you release the button/trigger. There shouldn't really be a delay when you let off. -
Re: base stealing
I know what TC means. Sometimes I get the same thing. As soon as you see the pitcher move you release the trigger but there is a small delay before the runner goes.
I get caught often when this is the case.
Also TC, if you do your homework try stealing when you think a slower pitch is coming. You will often have more time on a change up then you will on a fastball. If you just saw a few fastballs the pitcher will probably change it up. This can be a good time to steal.
It is not even though. The CPU can steel with little to no lead on a 96 mph fastball with room to spare against the best catcher in the game, but it already appears you have made some slider adjustments.Comment

Re: base stealing
turn the hitters eye (or batters eye.. the black circle thing) on and let go of the trigger as soon as the circle dissappears. use this for a while to get used to the timing on different kinds of deliveries then take it off.Comment

Re: base stealing
Here's some base stealing tips:
- Make sure you lead off at least 3 times, preferably 4 (that farthest you can go from 1st, 2 if from 2nd)
- Study the pitcher's motion. If he's quick to the plate, don't even bother. If he has a hitch is his delivery or just has a lanky motion, those are the pitchers you steal on.
- Hold the L trigger down until you see him move, then release.
- Only use runners that are 75 or above...and even then it's a crapshoot.
- Wait for a count where there will be changeup or curveball. If the pitcher throws a 98 MPH fastball at the letters you're dead meat.
- When sliding, motion to the outside of the bag to avoid the tag...you'll be surprised how many more bases you get with a quality slide.
Remember, even under the best of circumstances, you will still get gunned down occassionally, but that's all part of the risk.Comment

Re: base stealing
In a way its cheating but if you are playing against the computer and you have a man on third, for some reason, in my experience they always throw to third first so you can easily steal second. Also just take big lead-offs and as soon as the pitcher moves at all let go of the triggerComment
