New laptop with ATI Radeon, need help
I got a new laptop, from my brother with an ATI Radeon gpu and I just want to make sure MLB2k11 it utilizing it. On my other computer I had to specify the nvidia gpu in a utility to be used by mlb2k11. Do I have to do the same with the ATI? How do I know if programs are using it and not integrated graphics?Tags: None -
Re: New laptop with ATI Radeon, need help
I figured it out and I only got it up to 30 fps. On my other laptop I was getting much higher than that.
BTW, on my computer I had to select the graphics card in a program provided by NVIDIA. The only program I have using it is MLB2k11.Comment

Re: New laptop with ATI Radeon, need help
A lot of new laptops feature Optimus technology which basically just turns off your 3D graphics card when it's not needed. It helps with battery life but seeing as I use my laptop with a wall socket it's largely a nuisance that creates problems with some games not recognising the 3D card. You run into problems all the time with games not choosing the right card and running terribly. I've had MLB and NBA 2K just start stuttering like crazy because the laptop has switched to Intel graphics forcing a restart. Also some games won't run at all.
eg. LA Noire won't run at all on an Optimus laptop unless you use an illegal crack. Which is completely and utterly absurd.
PS. It might be worth investigating further pistolpete because this game is not very GPU intensive. I'm amazed you can only get 30fps with a dedicated gaming GPU. Unless your laptop is very underpowered something is not quite right.Last edited by Guffers; 02-02-2012, 06:28 AM.Comment

Re: New laptop with ATI Radeon, need help
When I run "can I run it" on the newer laptop it says I can run it easily and run it fast. Then I get 30 fps when I play the game. I don't know which gpu it is off hand, but I googled it and I think it's pretty low end.
I would investigate it further, but I am giving the laptop to my other brother now.Comment

Re: New laptop with ATI Radeon, need help
I have an hp pavillion g-series, i5 2.3 ghz with an ATI 6470m, i had mlb2k11 running on here at close to 60 fps, if that helps.
This computer also has a "switchable graphics" program (maybe only on hp?) in the ATI control center where you can tell the computer which graphics card you want certain programs to use. Now i think the computer should or at least is supposed to use the higher end ATI when running a high end game like 2k11.
I also ran the "can i run this game" program and it will never pick up the ATI card only the integrated Intel and it always tells me that i need a different graphics card. I really wish there was a way to disable this Intel onboard card but i can't find a way and i did look in the bios as well.Comment
