Honestly, regardless of their improvements I would never spend $60 on this game. You compare the show to the MLB2K in terms of cost-benefit and clearly the show has more content. That's why I think it's perfectly acceptable to spend half price ($29.99) to get MLB 2K on PC.

Best PC game deal for me last year, absolutely. Wouldn't even consider paying twice as much for the console version though.

The ultimate irony is if 2K12 is a great, glitch free product with room to grow and the series being cancelled due to exclusivity.

Irony being that the 2K series effectively ended the quality MVP series and we (Xbox users) were stuck with substandard products for so long.

I'd like to see exclusivity end but for the 2K baseball series to continue. It sometimes takes a couple years for developers to get baseball games right, so I'd like a choice between a steady but potentially buggy 2k13 or MVP 13 (or whoever else).

2K gets a lot right, they just seem to fail at play-testing their product for glitches. Competition could make them take their product more seriously, and even a bug-free phoned-in roster update could potentially be better than a new product just starting out.

What bothers me about this is if you have to claim you're not "phoning it in" then there is a perception that is not necessarily positive about this game.

That speaks volumes to me.

2K didn't say "We're not phoning it in this year!" The JOURNALIST did, theorizing that as a possibility due to the exclusivity running out and the series losing money. The journalist was perfectly fine in mentioning this, regardless of the series' quality.

But yes, past entries have been phoned in IMO. :-) But I can't see a company blatantly saying that!

Oh I know that - I'm just saying how often do people have to answer that question when marketing a game?

It has been a topic of conversation and wonder around here as well. That's not usually a good sign. That's all I'm saying.

why would 2K Sports/VC continue to make a game that they admitted makes them lose around 30 million dollars per year ?

don't you guys think that if they didn't have to make MLB 2K12 ( they currently have to since they obtained the exclusive license contract ), they wouldn't ? since they're losing money on it and they said they're not into pursuing losses

I may be wrong, but I hate how the term "losing money" is thrown around by these companies, when in fact, they're technically making a profit. For example, if they had 25 million in revenue last year for the game and then 15 million this year they'll come out and say they made a 10 million loss which is bogus. They made a 10 million profit, just not as much as last year. Either way the bottom line is showing a net profit. If the bottom line was really a 30 million loss each year than 2K would quite literally be out of business. Make sense?

They said that the game causes them to lose money now. Keep in mind though, that's including the license. If they could make the game without the exclusive license, it's a different story.

I'm not saying they'll decide to make one or not (it might still seem like a losing proposition to them), but the "not into pursuing losses" comment was in regard to renewing the license, not making the game at all.

When they talk about losing money, they are talking about on the specific project and how it impacts projected earnings. You can lose money on a specific aspect and still come up in the black overall...it doesn't make the loss of money on that project any more palatable (unless the difference is gigantic) and it doesn't mean that you are not losing money that could be adding to your overall margin.

IF there is no exclusive agreement going forward then there is no reason why this series won't continue.
Even if EA were to enter and bring back the MVP series, history dictates that it normally takes a couple of years to iron out bugs and problems before the game becomes good(unless EA have been secretly developing for the last few years waiting for exclusivity to end and hit the ground running...but i would imagine this is highly unlikely).
So for 350 owners as much as gamers would love to see the MVP series back if it is not up to spec then i think most would continue to buy 2k and the next few years could actually be their most profitable yet.
