    Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)

Something else I've noticed: seems like below-average to bad pitchers throw a TON of strikes. I'm mostly talking about pitchers with an overall of 70 or lower. I noticed when I was a hitter in My Player, it seemed like it was nearly impossible to get a walk in the minor leagues. The pitchers just literally would not throw a 4th ball. Like, it would have been easier to draw a walk from Verlander or Halladay then these guys.

I just played a franchise game where they opposing starter got hurt, and they brought in a 68 rated pitcher, with no Inside Edge data. He threw like 98% strikes. You'd think it would make it easier to pound the guy, but not when he's mixing up pitches, and avoiding the middle of the plate. And there's no IE data to know his location tendencies. Grrr.

      Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)

Been playing 2k12 for about 2 weeks now and I'm impressed. Granted this is the first baseball video game I've played since Baseball Stars for NES but I think even in comparison to Madden this game does quite well.
The best thing for me has been the commentary, as it is quite simply the best I've ever heard. The presentation is also very appealing to me as it feels as though I'm participating in a live broadcast. This is especially so when you mix in the commentary. The pitching is fun but you have to adjust the sliders because if you use the pre-sets its fairly easy to dominate opposing batters. The stadiums are also very well done. Finally, I really think 2k is onto something with MLB Today Season Mode.
Now for some things I didn't like. Number one, the $59.99 (in Canada) price tag. I thought 2k games were supposed to be a bit cheaper, but after playing the game I realised that this game was intended to go head to head with The Show and not to be just some discount crap game that you won't play for more than a month. So in the end I think the value is OK for this game. The biggest issue is with the fielding. The players look unnatural when fielding ground balls, so much so that when my infielders make a play I have to avoid looking at them so I don't screw up the play. The outfielders also look just plain weird at times. So I guess the game engine still needs some tuning.
Overall I would give this game an 8/10.

I actually just picked up MLB 2k12 today after hearing about the MLB Today mode where you can see how you did in comparison to your team throughout the season. For whatever reason, I thought that was a pretty neat idea.

I've always been a "The Show" guy since I only have a ps3 now, but I sort of fizzled out with the game over the years. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with 2k12. Everywhere I read explains that The Show is the better game to have, but I really am enjoying 2k12.

        What's wrong with me? Haha

Nothing wrong with you man! Fielding pitching batting and commentary are more fun in 2k. The Show has every thing else better and has a 'quality' feel to it.

            Yup!
Been playing The Show for the past week and while I like some things about it, I find myself going back to 2K all the time.
It's just more fun. Plus, I love Hitters Eye and the analog pitching.

I just wish the player models and colour palette were better.

Had this game for two days. It was a piece of crap and sold it.

Downloaded the latest rosters (thanks Bretzky & mkharsh33!!!) and had a great game against the Jays (playing as the Angels).

I lost 2-0 and never got past 2nd base against Dickey (yeah, I suck at all video games).

I think I'm going to start a franchise soon. I adore this game and I can see myself having more than enough fun with it in 2013 as well.

The MLB 2K series is definitely an acquired taste, but you definitely have to give it more of a chance than that. It has so many good points that people don't even see because they aren't willing to try something different.

The 2k sports games in general, with the exception of the NBA franchise, don't really get a second glance from most because they don't look as nice as the other games, but IMO they play a more organic game, that offers a challenge and a fresh approach, which is always a good thing.

Fortunately for me, I have NEVER played The Show. I don't know what I'm missing - and the truth is, I don't care. I LOVE the last two MLB 2K games... Very fun to play - and at the end of the day, all I'm looking for is 1) simulation baseball and 2) a fun time. 2K11 and 2K12 have given me both...

I've played The Show, and if anything, it's made me appreciate 2K that much more.
LOVE this series. I'll definitely be playing 2K12 throughout 2013 and possibly beyond.

I barely played any of 2k12, but I'm going to give it a go again on the PC. Does anyone know if the sim engine still blows?

Not as bad as The Show's.

I liked it on 2k11, but I vaguely recall issues on 2k12 such as HR league leaders hitting like 20 dingers.

I never had that problem. The sim was mostly spot on.

Now, I did have to boost user power to hit enough home runs to be realistic.

Sorry, can't play a broken game that has terrible graphics, fielding animation, fielding, glitches, horrible hitting, and so much more.

I have not clue how anyone could possibly say anything good about this game.

                                2K hasn't made a good game since 2K7
