      Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)

I played my first game last night on default all star. I did play the demo probably 12-15 innings.

Braves 10 runs, 17 hits, 3 errors - believe the line was like 11 singles, 4 doubles, 1 triple and a homer. Walked three times. Didnt strike out a single time.

Marlins 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 error - walked once, struck them out 11 times.

The three errors were all pastornicky. He's got real ****ty fielding ratings so if he's on the move it's real easy to make a bad throw lol. The homer I hit was with chipper jones right handed, only 62 power, so that's a good sign. It was a 3 run shot off Ricky Nolasco. Brandon Beachy was pitching for the Braves. I mowed them down like nothing.

User power is probably about right at 50ish. Contact probably needs to go lower to strikeout more and to get less hits.

I played 3 innings this morning against the Giants (Barry Zito) and put up 4 runs and 6 hits in 3 innings. It's still just 12 innings but so far All Star is too easy for me.

I didn't see any real bad bugs but I did see some hitching and slowdown. I did download the patch but I didnt install the game to my hard drive. Hopefully the install to HD helps w/ the video lag. Overall I like the game. It's a more polished version of last years game and there's nothing wrong with that.

So far my impressions have been that his game is awesome, I'm really not running into a lot of issues or bugs that some people are. My only problem right now is I feel the right joystick is to sensitive when batting or fielding/throwing. Other then that I'm really enjoying this game.

I'm loving all the positive impressions.
My biggest worries this year were too little HR's from non-power guys, no HR's while using contact swing and not enough fielding errors.

I think that the more you play the easier it will become. I've started a Brewers franchise mode on pro difficulty, and I've hit three homers in three games with Rickie Weeks. I think its important that you mix up your contact and power swings if you're struggling with the hitting aspect of the game.
Last year Rickie Weeks had his dreads while he was fielding, but batting he didn't. It was absurd. A lot of the Brewers faces are much improved from last year (Marcum, Gamel, Weeks). But my biggest question is.....

Pretty sure they will have a free game of the day again just like last year. mlb.tv is pretty awesome though, not going to lie.

The non-power hitters are hitting some HRs. Gerald Laird, Brandon Inge, Ichiro, Ryan Raburn (against righties lol, we all know the dude can mash lefties), and David Murphy have all homered in my Tigers franchise either for or against me. The contact swing is producing HR's every once in awhile, and the fielding is much more difficult even if you don't tweak the sliders...and if you do, it is very intuitive and challenging.

Meaning you can't start Halladay and then relieve him with Lee and Hamels. Well actually you can, but they are very ineffective. What does everyone think of this?
It's like that offline as well.

It appeared you can't injure someone by hitting them. 105 MPH fastball to the head and nothing. It makes quite the sound hitting the catcher glove.

Definitely has some quirks but it is fun. For those having difficulty hitting I have the mindset of zone hitting and it works very well for me. For example a low and away pitch I push down and away on the left stick and have crushed the ball to the wall so I don't think "pushing down" means you automatically will or are trying to hit a ground ball.

One other thing...I use classic batting, never liked the analog stick for it. I cannot check swing though. Sometimes I barely tap the A button and get a full swing everytime...kinda frustrating.

It's been confirmed by various people on this site that if you double tap the A button you will check your swing on classic batting (I don't know if you knew that or not)

Played my first full game and had a great time. Overall, I think the game is great. I'll be alternating between both games this year.

MLB 2k12 is looking good this year (gameplay not graphics :P) however the one thing that has really got me on the edge is the bug that has been in the game since 2k9? i think it was. When you would call up an A,AA,AAA player to MLB and he would have a generic face has anyone run into that bug this year?
