Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
Can anyone tell me how to get a home run in this game, I have played The show in the past and have had no problems hitting(supposed to be a harder game). I have now played 20 games in franchise and tried every type of setting change but cannot get a home run no matter how solid the contact i make on the ball it dies before it gets to the wall. I'm a patient person but this is ridiculous am I about ready to trade it in-every hit i get is a single over the ss or 2nd. Hitting with classic btw.Tags: None -
Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
I use classic. No problems hitting HR's. Bump up your power slider a bit. I have my contact slider at 40 and my power slider between 55-60. I'm still getting a larger sample size to see what is more realistic. So far 60 is producing good results. -

That's such a helpful reply..
Obviously the thing to do is to increase the power silder. 2K baseball is traditionally a HR fest, so it's really a simple matter of slider adjustments with this game. Increasing the contact silder will help as well as contact in this game also acts as a ball loft modifier.Comment

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
I'm using MK's sliders which has the power at 60 for users and through 9 games I have 8 HR's. 5 from McCann, 2 from Heyward, and 1 with Uggla. I use classic hitting. Most of my HR's come from the 3rd to 5th pitch of the at bat. I always take until the first strike is thrown. The only exception is if I identify a hanging breaking ball or just get a fastball that I know I can drive.
Other than that, I take every pitch until I get a strike. If I get down 0-1 early in the count, I'm probably not going to get a HR. But if I can for a 2-0, or even 2-1 count or the 3 ball counts obviously, chances are the pitcher is going to be a lot more likely to make a mistake that I can crush.
It may just be my head, but the games seems to really reward patience at the plate. If you take a lot of pitches, like I do, then the game seems to reward you with some powerfully hit balls. I even will take pitches I know are strikes because it's not the pitch I want. Even when I'm down 0-1 in a count, if I have someone like Chipper, McCann, Freeman, or Heyward at the plate, I might take the next pitch even if I identify it's a strike just because it's not a pitch I want to try and drive. This will sometimes lead to me having a bad at bat, but it also can lead to the pitcher trying to get you to chase something the next two pitches, which evens the count up 2-2 and you're right back in good territory quickly.
One last thing, analyze the pitcher. Remember what he throws. Last night Narveson would always go to a change up low and away if he got the first pitch strike, so I'd be looking for it and take it if I saw it because that's not a pitch I want to hit. However, when het would get down 1-0, he'd usually try to get a 2-seam to cut back over the plate away, but I'd always take that too because I know a 2-seam away from me is going to get me to ground out a lot. But if he ever got behind 2-0, for some reason he liked the slider, and a few times he'd leave it hanging and I'd give myself the green light if I saw it. Turns out he was down 2-0 to Heyward, came with a slider, left it high in the zone, Heyward got a 2 run homer.
So you need to remember what the pitcher is trying to do. If the pitcher throws a lot of first pitch strikes, maybe go away with patience for a bit and swing at them to try and get him to back off a bit. If the 3rd pitch during every at bat is a change up away, don't chase it because you know you're going to ground out more than likely.
It'll take time, but once you develop the patience and start catching on to the pitcher's tendencies, you'll become a lot better hitter and your offense will just play out so much more realistically. When I lose a game and have 2 hits, I'm upset, but when I was able to force the pitcher out of the game still because I was so patient and forced a high pitch count, the loss isn't as bad as if I had just swung away and gave him a CG 90 pitch outing. I know that the other team was just on it and it wasn't my day.
After a loss like that though, if you keep up the patient offense, it'll pay off. You may have a little stretch like I did where I lost 4-5, 2-4, and 2-4 and never had double digit hits, but then the patience will reward you and you'll have 3-4 straight games of 12+ hits and the offense will be clicking.
It just makes the game seem a lot more realistic and alive to me because my offense plays out just like the Braves. On one day, not even showing up the next haha.
And yea, sorry I made this post 100x longer than it should have been.Last edited by canes21; 03-16-2012, 11:11 AM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
Another thing, don't panic on an 0-2 count. I used to nearly swing at everything when down 0-2. DON'T! A good amount of pitchers like to try and get you to chase that 3rd strike. A couple of games ago, my patience was maybe too much as I struck out 5 times looking, so I started to panic on 0-2 counts. I never even got close to coming back to win it. The next game I reminded myself that down 0-2, I don't have to swing unless it's close. I remembered that and had 2 different times I got down 0-2 and then forced a walk on 8-9 pitches. I would foul off a couple pitches and could tell the pitcher was wearing down. I felt so good. Being down 0-2, then forcing a walk feels better than getting a single for sure.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
i've played 8 games, and i think i have 7 or 8 HR's. The funny thing is most of mine of come with the contact swing. My advice would be like everyone else said, bump of the hum power a lil bit, and just swing at good pitches. It's all about the timing too, so maybe lower cpu pitch speed a tad.NFL - Minnesota Vikings

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
Use the power swing all the time.
Use contact for when you have 2 strikes and just want contact.
Strangely enough I have been hitting HR like crazy with like Jose Reyes but can't go deep with Stanton. I must have better timing with Reyes' stance or something lol.
I am not using classic, so I can't speak to techniques for that.. but I have found that hitting with the stick and loading your swing up every time you are in a favorable count gives great variety IMO.Comment

My bad, I use analog, easy to hit for power that way.OS Vets Co-Commissioner:

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
No biggie, just a lot of people aren't reading the OP's post about using classic swing lol. All the advice he's getting pretty much isn't helping at all.
I also use classic swing. I had my first four home run game today when I was testing out the Yankees with power jacked all the way up.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
I've had tons of problems hitting, but then again I am the A's. I did have a 2 home run game recently though. And it was tied to High heat. Fastballs up and out over the plate Brandon Morrow was throwing it in there at like 99 MPH, but straight as an arrow. I got a hold of a couple of them.
Someone mentioned paying attention to what the pitcher does, that's true. They seem to have patterns. Watch for the pattern and try to exploit it. Matt Harrison on the Rangers just pounded down and away and after a while I stopped trying to fight and tried to poke it to left field. I had more success that way.Comment

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
I've been in a hitting funk. Do you guys who use analog hitting find you have more/less success depending on when you pull the right stick back? I tried doing that later in the pitchers delivery and I found I have a little better success in my last game. Is this true, or was this just a coincidence?Comment

Re: Impossible to hit a homerun in this game.
I echo what most others have said. Swing at good pitches and get your timing down. I bought the game today, played about five games and hit a home run in at least four of them. You just need patience at the plate.Ohio State Buckeyes Cleveland Cavaliers Cleveland Indians Cleveland Browns Columbus Blue Jackets Real MadridComment
