Chork and Ski Nebraska were always great in the old Triple Play games.

I've heard a lot about the commentary in this game being second to none. I played last year's game but not for very long, so I didn't really get too immersed in that aspect of the game. This year I'm listening, and I heard a really cool sequence that sounded indistinguishable from real life.

I'm up with Dan Uggla, and they're just talking about his year, the evening, you know, basic chatter. Then I put the bat on a high hanger and belted it to left center, and I hear, smooth as butter: "ooh, he got it, he got it . . ."

Not canned, not overly dramatic--it sounded exactly like what you'd expect three guys who were watching a game and commenting on it would sound when they heard the crack of Uggla's thunder stick.

Needless to say, I was impressed.

Agreed.. especially in franchise mode when the commentary really opens up.

So the commentary gets better in franchise mode? I have a hard time imagining how it could improve, but once I have my plate discipline down and can score more consistently, I'm going to fire a franchise up and see what's in there.

-i like the voice that goes 'strike' RIGHT after a pitch crosses the plate, before the ump even has a chance to say it. funny.
-love seeing pitch counts [balls/strikes] in the box score.
-what do you mean by the bolded part?

-they talk about upcoming schedules with projected starters. [one time i was in season two of a red sox franchise and they put up the schedule graphic talking about the rays series game coming up and they said should be a good division battle with the reigning MVP Evan Longoria. After the game I checked, and yep, he won the award in year one!

                        Holy cow, that's impressive stuff.

For me, a sports game is about longevity, and much of that comes from a game's ability to create a narrative that's compelling. It sounds like this commentary does just that.

I can look past some of the graphical eyesores (and there are several moments where this game is just offensive aesthetically) if commentary like this augments them.

Then there's the pitching, which I just stay perpetually giddy about because of the controls and the new dynamic hitter reactions.

there are more announcer 'little things' i am leaving out, but when i remember them I will post.

yes the pitching keeps you involved.
you cannot mindlessly pitch in this one. with the gestures, you must concentrate and take your time.
It feels truly worth it when you get a bigout in this, like you earned it.
But we also earn those 450 foot blasts we let up as well.

Oh no doubt. The pitching mechanic really makes you feel invested in each pitch. Every so often I try to lay one over or turn my brain off, and as soon as I see the "weak" assessment of a pitch belt high on the outer third of the plate, I put my glove over my mouth and say what the pros say, lol.

There's also nothing like striking a guy out with a great sequence of pitches, even more so when you mow him down in later at bats with different stuff. I had a game last night where I got sick with a MR on the Braves and I put down like 7 batters with him before pulling him for a pitch hitter.

I'm going to have to hop into an ATL franchise this afternoon. I can't take it anymore, lol.

to the commentary, 2k nailed it with their NBA and MLB this year.

the 3way banter is smooth and relevant, you will even hear slight cough-talk at times like one of them is kinda slightly fighting through a word mid sentence due to a cough or stutter.

the interruptions due to gameplay are seamless as well, had plenty of examples already. some are subtle like a routine hit, some are slightly built up like a hard hit with a close play and some are the NBA-style massive ramp up. had a late inning 3 run homer by Nellie Cruz, even I knew it was gone as soon as I hit it. they cut off their talk with a liner like "OH MY Cruz got a hold of that one, no doubt about it!"
