    Let's talk injuries

I have 3 SP, 1 RP and 1 position player out right now. I have it set to default (50) because I like the challenge and it has allowed me to see some AAA players play.. but is it going to get even worse or have I run into bad luck?

I'm only seeing 1, maybe 2 guys injured on the AI controlled teams.

This is only 11 games into my season!

I remember this being an even bigger issue LAST year. i play at 15 and i have a couple players out both play the same position. i think you should tune it down about 5 points.

      i put it @ 20.
5 games in, Swisher out 2+ days with a back strain. hurt it on a home run swing i think.
league wide looks good injury wise.
      i'd lower it.

There are a lot of nagging injuries if you keep it at 50. I didn't really see it as all that bad, a lot of those players if they are only down a few points can keep playing. Although, I assume that makes it more likely to get a more serious injury if that is the case.

          Re: Let's talk injuries

          I keep it at 40.

I think anything 25 or lower is too low.

With one month into my Red Sox franchise set at 40 I had two minor injuries (less than 7 days) and 1 injury for 20 days. A utility guy was the one hurt for 20 days so I 15-day DL'ed and sent him to AAA.

So essentially at the end of that month I had 1 guy left hurt.. which was on par with other teams. I imagine as the months go on it will cummulate into dealing with 2-3 injuries at a time.

I tried it at 25 for a while.. but I would NEVER see a guy get injured during play and only occasionally during simmed games. Also it made so few injuried league wide that I decided 40 would be a good spot.

Remember... baseball teams ususally deal with several injuries at a time. I think its realisitic to deal with multiple injuries... It forces you to have a good AAA team to cover injuries at the MLB level.

Challenge yourself! Try it at 40!

I have it on 15. I play with the Phillies and Jimmy Rollins was hit with a pitch in the knee. Tore his ACL. Was out for a while. Had to trade away Victorino to get Hanley Ramirez and switched him back to SS.

I like it in madden where there would be an occasional.. every 3 season career-ending injury. Those were cool.
Has anyone have someone injured for the whole season yet?

kpkpkp says 40 so giv it a shot.
Or just do some test sims at different numbers.
The sim engine is FAST in 2k, so it won't be a pain.

it always bothered me when ppl say 'too many injuries, use 15'. I looked for an answer and the best I could find was this:

The search engine that helps you find exactly what you're looking for. Find the most relevant information, video, images, and answers from all across the Web.

I'm not saying its perfect but he obviously put work into it and came up with 700 injuries in 2010. Divided by 30 that is 23 injuries per team. I simmed a few franchises and found that 40 gave me the most realistic result. I counted 23 injuries for the season @ 40.

The only issue when simming is that if you let the CPU handle lineups they leave minor injuries in the lineup which can trigger extra injuries. Still I am happy where it is at 40, 15 is way too unrealistic imo. If anyone has a better way or numbers on injuries IRL id love to hear it

I am going to try out 40 tonight. I think i'm on like 15 or 20 right now and havent had an injury. If you really think about it there are tons of injurys to every team always.

Haha, your method was more scientific but we seemed to have come to the same conclusion. I too find 40 to work pretty well, it gives me a challenging amount of injuries and at times time forces me to rely on AAA guys. Which in turn makes me keep up a good AAA team.

I wanted to reply to your post also because you make a good point about the CPU controlling their DL.

I also see CPU teams keep guys with minor injuries in games way too much. The Indians had Hafner hurt for a minor 7 day injury (he had a red cross), but he still played every game in the season..They kept starting him.. I guess not the end of the world, but they had capable backups and were risking putting him out for the season.

Even worse sometimes I see the CPU DL a guy (with the black cross) and they dont promote anyone to fill in! So they have 25 guys on their team.. but since only 24 are healthy only 24 are listed under the "team summary" screen and only 24 are used in their games!

Luckily in franchise mode you can control all teams rosters without having to actually do full-team control... so every couple of weeks I take 15 minutes checking out injuries to demote guys on 60 day DL's from MLB rosters to the minors for their respective teams. That way CPU teams fully utilize all 25 of their player slots.

It only take 15 minutes, and impacts realism greatly.

                      Re: Let's talk injuries

I'm keeping it at 50 for now, I think I'm just having some bad luck out of the gate so I'm going to give it a month of games or so before I tweak it.

I had all 5 SP injured in ootp before

I don't like tweaking too many things.. I figure there must be a reason 2k decided on 50 as "default".

Injuries at 50 would not be too bad if it really didn't occur to your pitching staff more than the whole roster. it seems every other game you will lose a pitcher.

Mine is at default and I've only lost one reliever in about 10 games played.....

If you stay away from the upper limit of the pitch count, that probably helps.
