Is it possible with a team like the Pirates to achieve higher income?

    Hello,

Im wondering if anyone has experience with a team that starts a Franchise with 60 Million of income or less.

I have done Franchises with the Twins, and Red Sox for far. Both start with a decent 100 Mil or more for a year's income.

Is it possible to get a team with lower income to be higher over the years? What do I have to do?

-Win post season berths and titles?
    -Have high rated players?
-Get players on the All-Star team?
    -Finish first place?

I wanna do a challenging team, but I dont wanna be stuck with the lowest league income for all eternity...

I'm playing with the A's and am in 2013. My budget went up after year 1 because we had a moderately successful season. Enough to drive up getting fans to the ballpark. I think I now have a budget of about 65 million total majors and minors versus what they started with. I assume if you actually get to the playoffs versus just making a run, the budget increases even more.

How much extra did you get in millions? Like an extra $3 million or something.

Again.. I have no experience with low budget teams.

The Red Sox for example start with like $175-ish I think. I finished in 3rd place my first year and it went down $5 million. I finished 3rd again in year 2 and it went down only $500,000. Im midway through year 3 and Im currently in 2nd place.

But I would hope if I got a team like the Pirates to finished in 2nd or 3rd.. I would gain revenue. (since 2nd place would be an improvement for them)

I also wonder if its based on more than just what place you finish... like if you have high rated players.. will that get higher attendance and as such higher revenue?

You could cheat too. But that just isn't fun. Cheating is where you edit everyone's contract and give them low income. Thus, increasing your available budget to 100m+. But your budget will go up as players contracts expire, releasing players, retired players and even trading players. It is a lot of work to get a small budget team into a big budget team.

I would answer the question but I don't know the answer to it. I play with the phillies and their stadium is always filled.

But does anyone know that if a bad team in real life (ie: marlins), who has an empty stadium almost every game. Does it show in 2k12? Or is literally every seat filled when you have a 30k+ seated stadium, but it says you only get about 10k-15k fans attending.

this is from the new 2k blog on MLB Today/My Player/Franchise:

Based on our user feedback, we increased the possible variation in the attendance levels for teams in Franchise mode to ensure that the small market teams are better differentiated from the rest of the teams. This means that if you pick some of the teams with lower attendance you have a chance to grow your market and next year revenue through a good season performance.

I know I could cheat and lower contracts..But freeing up team budget is not what I was talking about. Im asking what needs to be done to raise team income.

I always get confused about visual attendance Vs. actual attendance. In my Red Sox franchise it says I'm sold out, but I will see empty seats here and there. And I when I would play small market away games, I would see most seats filled.

So I think what you say is what happens.. it will say 10-15K in attendance, while looking like the place is filled with 30K fans. Perhaps what they said in that blog is true, its just that the visual varience is hard to notice.

            Thank for the info Econoodle,

So basically we can confirm through the 2K's blog and through people's experiences that better performace = better attendance. And better attendance through the year means more $$ towards next year.

This would suggest that the more time you spend in 1st place during the course of the season the better it will be for next yers budget.

            But what exactly drives attendance??

            -Performing better/placement/win-loss. (confirmed)
            -Having high rated players?
            -Having league leaders?
            -Award winning players?

This is a good discussion. I remember the older 2K games had that GM Goals interface where if you met a certain goal for a player to get X amount of hits, wins, HRs, etc. that you would get a boost in income. Also, by having a TEAM lead the league in a statisical category could get you a boost, or trading for a player with a certain rating such as power rating over 80 would give a net increase to income.

All of these things could be happening behind the scenes now and translating to a gain in income if accomplished.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if these things are still happening "behind the scenes."

We know from the 2K blog that the team performing well will get higher attendance. (which leads to more $$)

So I think its safe to assume things like being in 1st place, winnings titles/post season berths will increase attendance/income.

I just wonder about non performance factors. Like having 80+ rated players as you said.. or players with titles/records. I wonder if that stuff helps.... I guess it will help you win which will help you "perform" better so it will help you get more income.

I wish they had a "GM's handbook" like they have the "Players handbook" that way they could explain how some of this stuff works. (attendance/revenue/drafting.. etc etc.)

I'm playing as the Pirates now and in the NLCS (!), but it looks like I'm going to lose to the Rockies (down 2-0 at the moment). I'll let you know what happens with budget after my season ends.

                    So what ever happened?

I would hope that if you got a team like the Pirates into the post season you would get extra revenue the following year...

I wish the game displayed actual attendance. Most games the stadiums look almost full when in reality those teams would not be getting those types of crowds.

Yeah it would be nice if actuall attendance was displayed correctly.
Because no matter what a teams attendance truly is the stadium always looks full.

Of course in the game attendance does vary greatly for each team. When you look at the after game or financial sections you can see how attendance might have only been 70% for a game, even though it always looks like 90% full.

Furthermore, not having to load up the images of a sell-out crowd for every game would ease up on the 360/PS3's graphics chip!

Oh well... at least the true attendance rates are tracked and that's what matters.

                        ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Aaaaanways... does anyone know what affects attendance/revenue besides "performing well"??

What will get me more attendance and thus more team income?
-Being in 1st of my division?
                        -Achieving post season berths/titles/championships?
-Having players rated 80+ OVR? Or 90+ OVR? All-Star players?
-Having players leading the league in select stats?

I wish there was more clarity on this...

I'm tied 2-2 in the series now, actually. Sorry this is taking so long, but I've had a boatload of work this week/last week and not a ton of time to play the games. I'll let you know by tomorrow morning (4/4) either way (simming to see of actually losing and getting there).

EDIT: The last time I checked (going into September, admittedly) I was averaging 66% attendance, even with a MLB-leading record.

Got eliminated by the Rockies in the NLCS; my budget went from 63.5ish million to 70ish million for 2013, rising 7.5 million (4 million for performance and 3.5 for attendance).

So yeah, you can get up there but it might take a while.

Thanks for the info Romain El.

This is actually the type of outcome I was hoping for. One where it's possible to increase income, but it wont happen super fast. You have to work for it.

It should take several above-par season's to slowly grow a small market team into a medium market team, and even possibly into a large market team over a longer period of time. It's good to know that possible in 2K12, even if it will take a long time.

But boy, it would be tough to grow the Pirates into the $100+ million yearly income range. I mean you would need to finished in 1st or 2nd while getting a decent playoff showing for like 10-12 years in a row... that would be hard on the Custom-Legend difficulty sliders I use.... but hey a man can dream!!!

                              Thanks again for the info!
