Re: My modding guide for beginners

Just wondering, are there any mods that alter the gameplay of MLB2K12?

I know there are a few for NBA 2k12 that alter how AI players behave and ball physics.

But something which I would love to see is a mod that alters the hitting physics in MLB2K12, because from what I have found out there are way too few ''inbetween'' hits that fly over the infield and drop in front of the outfielders giving a single most of the times.

But in MLB2K12 (my experience), the hitting is a bit too stiff in which high balls are either dead homers or fly outs. And that line drives are either too soft getting to the 2B/SS, or too hard and somehow the fielders manage to reel it in with a highlight reel dive.

As a batter I have a hard time getting good percentages with guys that should get them (hitting .121 with Vladdy G).

Are there any mods that make the hitting more like the real thing? Would be great if there is one out there.

Play a few games with the AA teams. You'll find those types of hits happen quite a bit with players rated in the 50s and 60s. It's my biggest issue with the game: MLB players' ratings are generally too high which, as you pointed out, means you don't see many of those in-betweeen type hits. I play with a generic roster where the highest rated players in my league are in the 70s, specifically because of this issue.

Hey g, you've discovered that too, huh? Completely different game when you play with players rated in the 60s and 70s, rather than the 80s and 90s. It suddenly and magically plays like baseball.

yep, i gave it a try the last days and yes the gameplay is better when playing lower rated teams/players!

One thing I like about it is it brings defensive shifting back into play. With the default rosters, all you have to do is leave your fielders back and deep, and you're pretty much set for the entire game. With the lower-rated players/roster, I'm constantly having to check CPU players' power vs contact ratings. It becomes a necessity to shift my defense to try and defend against those "in-between" hits that now happen on a regular basis.

Try to lower the "pitch break influence" slider, this should also help. I have set it to 20 and the hits come out different than before.

                      Did it work for you?

I hope so. I played a game today with the Giants vs. the Padres and I find that this slider change creates some "over the heads" hits.

Heh, I do feel for you bro. But after years of these buggy 2K games, you reach a point where you just have to laugh it off as part of their quirky charm. That, or play something else. Otherwise you go mad.

What do you mean by that - over the head of infielders?

Won't messing with the break influence affect K's too much though?

The only definite setting I've seen is having pitch speed @70 really causes more flare hits and bloop hits (i.e. really badly hit balls that fall in front of the outfielders). I am using mkharsh's sliders with pitch speed at 70, and I had to change user batting contact to 20 and power to 65... but its caused a very definite change in the way the ball comes off the bat.

Well, I guess it was time I'd introduce myself:

I'm Kccitystar, one of the modders down at MVPMods (maybe some of you know me from the glory days of MVP 2005, if so, hello XD), and I've spent a considerable amount of time helping people mod this game on PC, along with spending a considerable amount of time modding the game myself this summer.

One of the mods that I feel is extremely essential is the "superglobal" mod out at MVPmods. It's basically a global.iff file aptly named a "SuperGlobal" after the NBA2K mods, and it contains everything from accessories to extra jersey wrinkles that were not there before on the uniforms for a ridiculously amazing look.

Another miscellaneous update is an overhaul to the sky textures in the game. No more dull skies with no clouds, a cloud or two, and a sky that looks like an F5 tornado is about to touch down!

                              Download Link

There are also a few things in the pipeline heading into September.

For example, while I mod uniforms mainly for this game, it kind of dawned on me after playing so many games: Stadium grass is the same color across every ballpark in this game. I thought, well, that's not normal, not all parks have the same type of grass...so I did what any modder would do:

                              stay tuned my friends
