Re: MyPlayer Batting Help
One problem is the player's hitting ratings are so low starting out, it's tough making decent contact. I would think it comes down to sliders, and playing with a set that works for you. Though I don't think you can adjust sliders once you've started My Player, so that could be an issue. -
Re: MyPlayer Batting Help
I think sadly, a lot of people are so gunho on making it to the Majors their first year in My Player, that many people forget how the majority of careers start off. Not that many(20 actually, after looking it up) have made it the Major Leagues without a season or 2(or 3) in the minor leagues first.
You can try playing around with the sliders until you find that in between, but then again, what exactly is your "trouble"?
Are you hitting less than, say, .250? What's your player role? There are a lot of factors in your player's approach to hitting depending on the role.Comment

Re: MyPlayer Batting Help
A power hitter for example should start out with a power rating in the 70s. Anything lower and all the player really is, is a fly-ball-for-outs hitter. A 21 year-old power hitter in AA is a young man is capable of hitting the ball out of the park at any time. It's his contact and eye and discipline ratings or whatever that he needs to work on, not his power. His power is his natural ability.
Likewise a contact hitter should start out with contact ratings in the high 60s or 70s as well. If that's his strength and forte as a player, then he needs to actually be useful in that one area of his game. But My Player as it's currently programmed doesn't reflect all this.
The Tiger Woods series makes the same programming gaffe. The game starts you off as a so-called Amateur golfer playing on the Nationwide Tour or whatever. But the skills you're initially given don't allow you to drive the ball more than 200 yards, or higher than 20 feet off the ground. It's silly to the point of idiotic. That's not a Nationwide Tour-calibre player, that's me when I was like 14 years old, lol.Last edited by Yeats; 04-18-2012, 08:19 AM.Comment

Re: MyPlayer Batting Help
You're raising a decent point. But there is in fact a game programming issue in that too low of ratings makes hitting pretty much impossible. The ball will barely leave the infield. That's not being overly gung ho, that's just wanting realistic hit results.

Re: MyPlayer Batting Help
I agree that the My Player mode has it's flaws when it comes to role characteristics. One thing that both 2K and The Show do that irritates me is assume that a young pitcher out of high school/college can only throw near 90 mph, when we all know that's not true. It's why I rarely make a pitching career for My Player, simply because it's frustrating to want to be a young fireballer but I have to build up my velocity and get smacked around first before I actually gain those mph, instead of starting off with the heat, but needing to work on my control, movement, as well as my secondary pitches.Last edited by Yeats; 04-18-2012, 08:28 AM.Comment
