Tips for creating a HoF Closer

Looking for some tips on creating a HoF type closer.

I'm currently playing one MPM on the default settings to get a feel for the game as I haven't played a 2K title in a while.

I initially started with my player using a 90mph fastball and a 75mph changeup. I built them up to where I was about a 71 overall pitcher until I got bored with just using two pitches and added a slider. That bumped me down to a 68 overall. Is it best to just utilize two pitches as a closer and build them up?

Should I leave stamina alone at 25? I invested some SP into stamina until I got to around a 45 but started getting put into games as a long reliever.

I eventually got my overall rating to a 71 again but the closer had a 74 rating and was left in as closer even though he had some pretty terrible numbers. Do I have to reach a higher overall rating to take the closer spot even though my stats are significantly better? I had a sub 1.00 ERA/WHIP with barely any walks and the closer had a 4.00+ ERA/1.50 WHIP with more walks than K's and I still got plugged in as the setup guy or long reliever

    Thanks for any help.

I don't know if there are any differences (though I expect not) but my experiences of making a closer on 2k11 were pretty tough.

Each time I added a new pitch (like you) my overall went down a few ticks. I wasn't sure if I should make one pitch awesome or all of them equal.

And yeah, despite miniscule ERA and WHIP, I couldn't get the closer role in AAA (of course as soon as I closed in on the closers overall rating I got promoted).

Anyway, to cut a long story short on that save I got to my age-26 season with the Orioles with my overall only at 76 overall confined to doing long relief work. Not inspiring.

But I decided to experiment with my new closer, and I think I may know what you need. I think composure is the most important stat - try and bump that up as quick as possible. For now I'm going with two pitches (fastball, curve) and I'll try and make those quality (80 ovr each) before adding new ones.

It's certainly a lot tougher than being a hitter or starter - if you're not closing you only get around 30 appearances a season, and maybe 200 points from each of those. Good luck!
