What Were the Major Differences Between 2K11 and 2K12??

Having played both games extensively, what were the major changes and/or improvements from 2K11 to 2K12? Is there a list that someone can reference?

I mean other than the requisite roster update and the Miami Marlins, and the presentation getting some polish; example: overlay w/ how the pithces are tracked during an AB. I cannot see/remember any of the major differences between the two titles. They are almost identical, w/ 2K12 actually regressing in some areas that 2K11 improved on or had patched.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of fun w/ this game and am a major baseball fan, but I cannot really see how this title was more/less a glorified roster update.

I would definitely buy again, but not for $59.99 or whatever the initial retail price was. So for 2K13...update the rosters, put the Astros in the AL, and I will pay $19.99.

Well, they added MLB Today Season, although that didn't work out all that well. Dynasty sounds similar, but I think 2K12 has less bugs.

More errors in the field compared to 2K11?

I've been waiting for the price to come down before buying, but if you say there isn't much of a difference, I will just pick up 2K11.

If you can deal w/ some of the cosmetic changes not being in 2K11, i.e. Marlins still playing in ProPlayer Stadium, Free Agents not on correct teams and what not then I would say go w/ 2K11. Otherwise, I think they are basically the same game?

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised to see you making this topic, as I know you've been playing MLB 2K for a while. I feel the same way with the NCAA series.

It's virtually the same game. With the patch, the animations are much smoother now and it is generally a little less buggy than 2K11. As for game modes, you probably won't touch MLB Today Season since it not supported as advertised. My Player has received bug fixes and logic tweaks but nothing groundbreaking and Franchise is virtually unchanged. The stamina bug from last year is gone but sim logic, lineup logic, and everything else is unchanged. They did include the new wildcard format though.

I'd recommend you get it with one caveat: PC only. I don't think the series as a whole is worth more than $20 on PC and certainly no more than $20 on console. So if you can find it for cheap you should get it.

I was thinking about picking up an MLB 2k game, but I was a little confused by this part of the post. Were you saying PC was the way to go due to the modding community, or to avoid PC because 2k seems to be super slow with patching it (at least, that's my experience with NBA 2k)

Hell yes, there are so many f*ing errors, though sometimes it helps like if there are two outs and I am down by one and there are runners on second and third in the ninth and the center fielder drops the third out.

Also at gamestop, I got it for 47.50 for a NEW version

PC is the ONLY way to go IMO. Price alone makes it worth while and yes the modding community is a definite bonus. Heck, I bet having properly colored uniforms makes it worth it! The patch for 12 isn't a big deal though. They didn't fix a dang thing. They smoothed out some animations and fixed how players run to the dugout. Big deal right?

The big difference I see is the time it takes to play a game. After the patch last year, 2k11 played a quick game, by skipping all the time wasting animations between pitches. Now in 2k12 I have to press X to skip them, and that only works after waiting a couple seconds. Games now take me 10-15 longer to play.

The biggest difference I see is pitch selection changing color based on usage. I find that the most annoying feature of all in this game. I tried pitching with Kershaw and after throwing 3-4 sliders, the slider selection turned red. Meanwhile, the opposing pitcher threw 40+ % two-seam fastballs to his 20% 4SFB when 4SFB was his number 1 pitch.

There was this game where I scored one run in the first inning and CPU came back, via two errors on auto fielding, to tie it in the first inning. I replayed the game and again I scored one run in the first inning and the CPU tied it in the first inning. I was thinking this is very coincidental so I played the game a third time. On my third try, I scored one run in the first inning and the CPU came back to tie it in the first inning.

The game now rests quietly in the CD/DVD rack.

The limitation on what pitches you can throw is pretty great. Th fact that breaking pitches thrown up break less is good, too.

The games don't take longer if you turn on Hurry Up mode, just like last year.

The way pitch counts are used makes a lot of good sense. So you can you relievers on multiple days, but not if you max out their pitch count. So when deciding who to use, a guy may only have a few pitches and not really be available, but could help in a pinch.

You ca now cancel throws with you fielders, and defensive ability has been differentiated even more.

It may be basically the same game, but the upgrades have made 2K12 substantially better.

I am curious, why is the limitation on what pitches you can throw great? Do you see that happening in real baseball? Do you see that happening for the CPU as well? Where is the fun in being limited?

Precisely why I stuck with 2K11.

I admit, I don't get the colouring thing... but the dynamic re-ratings of the pitches is excellent... especially because it happens on a game long perspective AND based on what happened in the previous ABs.

It DOES happen in real baseball - over using a pitch makes it easier for the batter to pick up! on the other hand, if you're dropping un-hittable hammers should make it harder to hit.

How is the fun being limited... you are being forced to constantly re-assess. And it actually makes a difference going through the order multiple times - now you might consider bringing in a different pitcher simply based on the fact that you don't want you're SP to face the same batters again.

It does not happen in baseball for every pitcher. Look at pitchers on pitch fx and see how often they throw pitch types. I was pitching with Kershaw and after throwing 3 sliders in two innings, the slider selection was red--that should not happen for Kershaw: three sliders in two innings and done.

The CPU pitchers do not have that color change thing working for them.

As far as I'm concerned, the color change thing is silly, not fun and not realistic. But, hey, if you like it, good for you!
