How do you guys get deep into franchises?

I posted this in the Show forum before, but now that I am exclusively 2k I was curious how you guys do it. I have a 2k11 franchise going on my 360 I want to play all the games in, but what is realistic? 1 year maybe?

Tonight I plan to start a 52-game season franchise on 2k12 pc, but I wonder if the < 1/3 of real stats will bother me.

I hate simming bc I feel it really cheapens the experience.

Another question I have too is does anyone ever successful rebuild a doormat? Every time I get the notion I want to build up a team like San Diego, Cleveland or even Pitt I make it about 5 innings into a game and say to myself "what am I doing, I cannot play with this lineup?"

By playing the 52 game seasons. Back in the old days when it was an option I used to always play 40 game seasons. I only sim if I've clinched my playoff seeding or have been eliminated from contention. I too hate simming games, which is why I kept playing 2K over the Show since I want to be able to do more than one season in franchise.

Yeah, this is always the tricky part with baseball games. Unless you can play them for a couple hours a day, you have to sacrifice something to play a full season...let alone multiple seasons.

      You can:
      - Sim games. (I also hate doing this).
      - Play shorter seasons, but you don't get realistic stats. The game doesn't handle Fatigue right. And you don't get that baseball vibe of playing 3 or 4 game series.
      - Generated Pitch counts. Not in 2K12, but the one time I finished a 162 game season was on ASB05 with a 2-1 generated pc. It was fun, but not pure baseball without the full pitcher/catcher duel.

I can't imagine how someone could do multiple seasons without doing a ton of simming....and if they do, I would think OOTP would be a better option.

I did sim until September on the Show, but it's tough to run a team and know it intimately via simming. I'd rather play than sit down and study so I don't run the team into the ground.

That is a good idea. I suppose some drawbacks with that is that you don't play several teams. And what happens if your team is 20 games back when you get there?

I play every other game, and sim where you coach the game for the other games. Does not feel cheap to me. I am in year 2 with my Braves, i also try to make same personnel decisions best I can. Just did trade with diamondbacks for upton and johnson for prado, delgado, and another prospect. I also make some other moves, like trading uggla(cannot hit with him) for beckham( former bulldog) and some pitching. With my sliders I get all kinds of games. Year 1 i made it to WS against Rangers, lost in 6 games.

I did it once with the Astros and I said I would simulate the season when mathematically eliminated. I simmed all of 2011 and 2012 without playing a game.

This method works for a fun playoff run, but not for longevity.

I'm going to try the 52-game thing and see how that goes. So my pitchers won't be tired? I can deal with that as long as rotations progress.

Yeah, if I recall correcltly, the fatigue won't really work with your relievers since there are 2 or 3 off days between each game. So you are kind of on the honor system (which I don't find a big deal). I can't recall how it impacts the position players...I think the same?

I do kind of like what they did with the 52 game schedule. They took the real MLB schedule, but you just play the first game of each series. So the season still spans from April to October. And the order you play opponents is the same as the real life team. And as the season goes, all teams have played about the same number of games (I can't remember if it was NBA2k or NHL2K...or maybe both....but in thier shortened seasons, the schedule is often goofy and one team will have played several more games than another).

Another option would be to choose your favorite pitcher or two and only play those games. You'll get to play at least a game in most series'. I supersim the rest. When supersimming, I wish you had more control over the game, ie. pitching changes, pinch hitters etc. Wonder if this will be an option in 2K13??

Re: How do you guys get deep into franchises?

I play the first game of every series and sim the other 2 or 3. But if it is a divisional series I try to play them all. I am a Red Sox fan (not last year though) so I'll play all the games vs. the Yankees and other divisional teams.

I too hate simming but the fatigue just wasn't right on the short schedule.

You have to start the game and then go to supersim in the pause menu.
This will allow you to make any changes you wish while simming.

That's the way I do it.
Supersim only until the off season.

The problem with a 52-game season is that the pitching is completely messed up. You only need 2-3 SP pitchers and then 3 best available pitchers (doesn't matter if they're SP, RP, or CL). All the AI teams will still run a full rotation so you'll obviously lead in all pitching stats and win all the awards.

Unless your on the honor system. Like me.

                              I found the solution:

                              myplayer mode

EDIT: It's the best of everything:
                              1. I get to develop a player
                              2. Each game takes about 5 minutes
                              3. I can account for every single statistic the player accumulates
                              4. You greatly reduce the likelihood of slider hell. Pretty much who cares about how fast the OFs run and stuff like that.
                              5. You don't have 100 players to worry about in your entire organization.

Ohhh, and you get new camera views for a huge portion of the game.
