Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
As a PS3 user I would recommend 2k10 as I think it plays by far the smoothest in terms of frame rate issues.Comment

Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
I think 2K11 was a nice improvement over 2K10 which had limited hit variety. I would personally try 2K11 or 2K12. Have you tried downloading any of the old demos if you could find them?Comment

Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
2K8 was ugly as sin on the PS3. I tried the demo that year and couldn't even play a 3 inning game. I would not recommend you do that. They did not support the PS3 well at all. 2K9 was the first time this series intrigued me again. I remember being FAR more impressed with that demo. It looked a lot better and had a much better feel for me. To each their own but I know you are a Show guy and I don't think you would like 2K8.

2k11 0n the PS3 is a good game but when compared to the xbox version (which I have as it was released in Europe) it isn't as good and there is some stutter.
I love 2k12 and play it every day at the moment but the frame rate issues, combined with the game speeding up during clutch/pressure moments, which make them even worse, make it pretty hard to play sometimes. (Note I'm using mkharsh's sliders)
I just feel 2k10 plays great and with some slider modifications plays a really good game. Just wish I could get updated rosters!!
Should add that there is no auto fielding option in 2k10 and you can't change camera angles for fielding either!!Last edited by jimbo_1884; 02-26-2013, 08:38 AM.Comment

Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
I played 5 games of 2k12 over the weekend, and last night I played a game of 2k11. 2k12 is a much more difficult game I think (given identical sliders). Pitchers are a bit more difficult to read and there is more strategy involved in pitching.
However, 2k11 is flat out more fun. The camera angles are much better, the play is smoother with no global roster edits required.Comment

As pistolpete says, the different camera options for fielding and base running which 2k10 doesn't have give it extra points as well.
The only downside are no check swings and there was one instance where I was waiting for a pitch that never came, as the pitcher just stood on the mound - got round this by making a substitution.
Played as The Mariners againts The Twins and won 6-5 with 14 hits to 7 (King Felix gave up a grand slam!!) on All-Star and it was a good, fun game.
So, I am going to have to change my mind and suggest you go for for 2k11 now!!Last edited by jimbo_1884; 02-26-2013, 09:53 AM.Comment

The PS3 version of 2K7 looked awful compared to the 360 version too. I was really shocked to see how different it was.Comment

Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
Nomo, I would suggest 2k8 if you're into analog pitching and hitting.
Each pitch has it's own unique gesture with the right stick and it's the original 3 step system, that for some reason was taken out of the game when VC took over. The speed of the meter is also tied into the pitcher's windup speed (much like the Show has it), and the last part of the 3 step system is the release point (again, both of these things were taken out when VC took over). There's a learning curve with the system and most of that is getting the gesture down and reading the meter. Stick with it and you'll have a lot of fun with it. You may have to tweak some sliders because it was easy to paint the black with any pitcher, even on the hardest of levels (I threw 6 no hitters and 2 perfect games).
As far as hitting is concerned, it's much like the Show's analog hitting is now. This is the only version of MLB2K where you have to time your stride forward correctly. Every game after 2k8 you could essentially "pre-load" your stride and just hold down on the right stick before the pitcher even moves. In my opinion they turned a cool swing stick into a glorified button.
As with most games, there will be some bugs and some potential frame rate issues. In my opinion 2k8 was one of the last good looking MLB games from 2k, and as far as the controls go, they were the most fun.Comment

Re: Best version of MLB 2K?
Unfortunately, 2k12 on the PS3 is a broken game.
The frame rate issues, especially during clutch moments make the game almost unplayable at times (although this could be due to the sliders) and earlier on tonight my short stop stood and watched as two runs were scored off a hit, one man scoring from first and the other one being an inside the park HR, rather than throwing the ball to the home plate!!Comment
