    Noob question about "Batter's Eye"

Do most of you play with Batter's Eye on or off?

I haven't played a baseball game for years and I'm wondering what the general opinion is on "Batter's Eye?"

I understand what it does from reading old game reviews, but it is actually fun or worth doing?

I play with the batter's eye thing off (the black circle you aim with) but I definitely play with hitter's eye (text message) on, I only wish you could use hitter's eye with the strikezone off.

Hitter's Eye is a very good representation of how better hitters get a read on what's coming, and even the general location. So when you hit with Trout, you will get more clues than when you hit with Vernon Wells.

but all you get is pitch type and the general up, down inside, outside or down the middle information. You can use that to maybe yank back and use a power swing on a center pitch, or use the LS to go with the pitch. I also find that knowing the general location has helped me read balls and strikes, even though the pitch could be either. The head start seems to kick in your ability to differentiate the pitch sooner.

And yeah, it would be cool to do this without the strike zone, but I don't really find that the strike zone alters my ability to read balls and strikes much anyway. And I do like the Inside Edge info that reminds me to lay off pitches in certain zones with different hitters.

When I see folks complain about the hitting in 2K, invariably they are turning off the tools that make it more compelling in favor of aesthetics. I think it was Curt Schilling that emphasized that the info should always be available, because that is info they memorize when they play. If you don't memorize it, but turn it off, you are losing a good portion of what makes the game tick.

I think everyone agrees that it's not the prettiest game, and some of the elements are pretty garish.

And tvman is right, the little black circle mode is a waste. I liked it in 2K8, when the circle varied in size due to count and the hitter's ability. So Albert Pujols had this huge circle that picked up lots of pitches, while other guys had much smaller ones that might not even cover a whole zone. And it would get smaller in 0-2 couts, and bigger in 2-0 and 3-1 counts.

But that went away when 2K fired the development team and hired VC to take over the series.

Thanks for the replies. I never realized that "batter's eye" and "hitter's eye" were 2 different things. I'm picking up the game tomorrow, so I guess I'll try it without the black circle but with the text hints.

Yeah they couldn't have made any more complicated. The slider relates to the Hitter's eye or as I call it the text thing and you also need the K zone on for it to work. Unless they changed that in 2k13? The batter's eye you turn on and off in the controller section.

One of 2K's biggest failings in this series has been teaching gamers how to use the systems they have in place. Most everything you will read is the conjecture of gamers trying to suss out the details.
