    Inflated Pitch Velocities

Anyone else notice this? Here's a breakdown of what I'm talking about. I'm only using my starting rotation too, so it won't take forever to read the inflation of pitch velocities.

    David Price 2k13
    fastball: 100 mph (+3)
    slider: 97 mph (+6)
    changeup: 90 mph (+4)
    2-seam: 95 mph (same)
power curve: 86 mph (Different pitch)

    David Price 2k12
    fastball: 97 mph
    slider: 91 mph
    changeup: 86 mph
    2-seam: 95 mph
    curveball: 81 mph (Different pitch)

    Jeremy Hellickson 2k13
    fastball: 96 mph (+3)
    sinker: 90 mph (Wasn't equipped in 2k12)
    cutter: 94 mph (+2)
    12-6: 82 mph (+4)
    circle change: 86 mph (+3)

    Jeremy Hellickson 2k12
    fastball: 93 mph
    cutter: 92 mph
    12-6: 78 mph
    circle change: 83 mph

    Matt Moore 2k13
    fastball: 98 mph (same)
    changeup: 90 mph (+2)
    2-seam: 96 mph (same)
power curve: 87 mph (Different pitch)

    Matt Moore 2k12
    fastball: 98 mph
    changeup: 88 mph
    2-seam: 96 mph
    curveball: 85 mph (Different pitch)
slider: 86 mph (Not equipped in 2k13)

    Jeff Niemann 2k13
    fastball: 96 mph (+2)
    slider: 90 mph (+3)
    curveball: 85 mph (+3)
    changeup: 87 mph (same)
    splitter: 92 mph (+5)

    Jeff Niemann 2k12
    fastball: 94 mph
    slider: 87 mph
    curveball: 82 mph
    changeup: 87 mph
    splitter: 87 mph

    Alex Cobb 2k13
    fastball: 94 mph (+1)
    curveball: 83 mph (+3)
    changeup: 89 mph (+9)
    2-seam: 92 mph (same)

    Alex Cobb 2k12
    fastball: 93 mph
slider: 85 mph (Not equipped in 2k13)
    curveball: 80 mph
    changeup: 80 mph
    2-seam: 92 mph

If you look at almost all the pitchers in the game there velocities for all there pitches are all higher than they should be.

Most guys out of the bullpen all throw in the high 90's with almost all the other pitches in the 90's or close to it.

I think this is basically a roster issue and that the velocities across the board for pitchers are inflated.

Yeah I noticed this in the original roster i looked at, makes no sense, 2k12's velocities were actually pretty close. Must have been one of dev's kids who inputted those!

Barry Zito has a 95 mph fastball.

Hopefully an updated roster will be better.

VC closed up shop months before and all the creative talent went off elsewhere. So Lil' Buster got the gig because he was at work anyway with his Dad on Friday afternoons when school got out early.

          Re: Inflated Pitch Velocities

I've been working on correcting the velocities for all pitchers who pitched in the majors last year and almost every pitcher's in game velocity matched their maximum velocity for that pitch using pitchf/x data (fangraphs.com).

It's pretty apparent that they used the max velocity instead of the average one for most pitchers. I am not lowering them all to the average, because in this game the velocities decrease as the pitch count rises, but I think that's the reason the velocities are so high.

Some guys, like Zito, really don't make sense because their velocities are inflated even over what their max was last year. And of course, there are still pitchers without the correct pitch type.

Thanks for posting guys I thought I might've been the only one to notice this. My solution for now is using pitchf/x from fangraphs.com. The speeds from last year were right on point if you ask me.

I think they need to be dropped, but shttymcgee makes a good point. We ought to be able to hit their maximums. I think it is far too easy to do so.

Regardless, I consider this mostly a cosmetic problem rather than a gameplay one. I would love it if they did a massive edit, but I'm not counting on it. It's definitely not worth my time to go in and edit every pitcher according to fangraphs. And I'm generally averse to using custom rosters, because they always seem to cause more problems than they solve.

I just edit them for the team I'm facing before I play (it takes like 10 min) because thats the only time it really matters anyway as I doubt the velocities have anything to do with the sim engine.

Exactly! I've simmed a few games and there's no noticable difference that I can tell between 2k12 and 2k13 unless you are playing. So taking 10-15 minutes to do the team you are facing is worth it to me.
