Kotaku MLB2K13 Review, A Must Read for the MLB2K Consumer...

You will be helping to reward 2K Sports with the first ever profitable year it will see from this license after nearly a decade spent mismanaging it, and you are telling the Major Leagues that not only can they slap their logo on any piece of crap and everyone will still buy it, but also that their poor stewardship of a multimillion-dollar license doesn't matter either. You are endorsing MLB Advanced Media's delusion that its video game product is as valuable as the NFL's. It is not. That attitude created this awful mess in 2005, when Take-Two's newly constituted 2K Games popped its suspenders and decided it would punch back at Madden and EA Sports by paying a ton of money to kill MVP Baseball, as revenge for the loss of the sainted NFL 2K5.
    Read the Review Here.

I won't be purchasing 2K13, won't buy it once the price drops, won't try to get it used, won't EVER pop it in my console!

It's pathetic how the Xbox 360 Baseball Gaming Fan has been treated over the years.

I will play 2K12 and hopefully finally finish my achievements.

Hopefully I will see you all NextGen, if a baseball developer can get their ****ing act together on the 720.

"I'm embarrassed to reread my publication history on this game prior to last season's release. I have, on two different occasions, driven 1,000 miles round trip to 2K Sports headquarters to preview this series. Another time, they flew to me in Oregon to show it off."

The fact this review is coming from someone with that sort of history with the game and with 2K, speaks volumes. That "business plan" comment you quoted says it all. I felt sorry for 2K after NFL 2K5, and I defended them for 2-3 years after that. But not anymore.

I agree with this review 100%. 2k13 has gotten me so angry I cannot enjoy 2k11 any longer.

Oh man c'mon now, you gotta relax. I fired up 2K11 last week for the first time in months. Having a great time with it. You paid for a game, you might as well enjoy it.

He was enjoying 2K11 before buying 2K13, so it's all in his head. That's my point.

Wow, I swear some of these guys are not even playing the game, I'm loving it, feels great, I'm seeing new things every game, honesty, its mlb 2k against the world it seems, like I said I'm enjoying the game greatly at the point.

Its so funny too, the game is number 2 in the baseball graphics world, but I took some stills from my camera on my phone and I think 2k graphics pretty good..maybe I'm the old man out, and this is me who loved the other game and owns it but just had a lot of fun with 2k..

The article is pretty dead on but I dont agree with it all as I was a longtime 2ker but after I saw what MLB 2k8 was gonna be I went and bought a ps3 now If 2k and Brinkman would have just built off of what MLB 2k7 did they wouldnt have wasted all these years as the game now plays better but on the ps3 its graphics mostly animations and player models are really bad .
Serious tec question how can MLB The Show look so good and MLB2k not ? I mean there miles apart IMO and I remember back in 2008 when them and NHL had to downgrade graphics maybe because of lag and freezing issues but 5 years later I just dont understand how they cant use the full power of the ps3 graphics like the show or other games do ?
              Thanks in advance
Finally Roster share in NHL 22 ! Dreams do come true ! To Garryowen and Glory boys !

For all intents and purposes, they pretty much pulled the plug on the series 3-4 years ago when they stopped putting any dev money into their baseball game. Understandable then the visuals haven't been upgraded, either graphics or mop-cap. The dev team didn't have the resources to do anything except minor tweaks each year.

Can't tell if you're being willfully argumentative or if you honestly have no understanding of the concept of being a slave to one's emotions. His anger and disappointment that he wasted money on 2K13 shouldn't affect his appreciation of 2K11, a game he previously stated he enjoyed.

And I see you jump back and forth between baseball forums, dumping on 2K while praising its competition. I have a feeling you'd support any negative comments about the game, regardless of how illogical they are.

That's not what the article was getting at. "MLB 2K13 shows so little effort as to be unworthy of the basic dignity of a full review." This wasn't a review of 2K13 as a game. It was an indictment of the people in charge who ran this series into the ground and alienated their entire consumer base in the process:

"MLB 2K13 is nothing but a ****-you to that constituency. For the past four years, Take-Two Interactive has peddled its poor-me bull**** over this license—recklessly negotiated by a corrupt regime preceding the current one—rather than taking ownership of its responsibilities and giving the MLB series the leadership and resources it so badly needed."

I'm sure with some time away I can get back in 2k11. I'll have to let my disgust with 2k13 die down. 2k11 is one of the few games (along with NHL 12) that once one game finishes I don't feel the need to tinker with anything I just go right into playing the next game.

I hear you. I felt that way myself about the PES series on at least one occasion. You buy the game based on the demo, and then discover they tweaked the full game before release and it's now head-scratchingly awful. That threw me off playing PES for a while, I was so disgusted with the bonehead devs at Konami.
