Re: Hard time pitching against power hitters (mlb 2k12)
In this game. You can't be afraid to walk a guy. If you have a power hitter up and he is mashing you. Try to nibble the strike zone and if you walk him because he didn't bite, so be it.
Go after the next guy.
Everything I've learned is pitch so they hit every time, I HATE WALKS IN VIDEOGAMES!!!!!!!!!! but, I'm learning to pitch the way I did in college and it really is a lot of fun translating it to this game as the pitching hitting interactions is amazing.Last edited by shogunofharlem3; 04-12-2013, 11:40 AM.Comment

Nice thing is, power hitters are still likely to chase, I was trying to unintentionally intentionally walk Bourn, threw a fastball way outside (controller was buzzing) and he promptly grounded out to first.
You may also want to get the Inside Edge on the ones that you see a lot, and try to pitch to their weaknesses.Comment

I use IE on power hitters all the time. so I throw those fastballs they want early in the count, but out of the zone. I mix in the offspeed stuff for strikes. Obviously, you can find yourself in 2-0 and 3-1 counts, and then you have to make tough decisions.
You also need to take a hard look at which pitches your guy excels at. there are large differences in what each guy is rated. Just because the hitter is weak on curveballs, if your guy has a 50+ or 60+ curveball, maybe trying to sneak an 80+ fastball in on the corner is a better play.
When all else fails, leave catcher suggestions on. And be willing to throw out of the zone when it asks. Don't follow it religiously, but if you start throwing a lot more balls out of the zone intentionally, you increase the number of times you will get ground ball outs and complete misses. this reduces the number of times you have to get a guy out by pitching in the zone.
Catcher suggestions are actually very, very good in this game. Start looking at what it suggests, then use the D-Pad to see if it makes sense. You will start to see that the game does a nice job of setting hitters up.
You can't access this during a game, but go in to the rosters of teams you are facing and look at the info on players. You can see the basic info during a game, but if you flip to the IE screen and hit A, it will bring up a lot more info on what guys hit, where they miss, and even a screen that shows what their tendency is in different counts.
During a game, use the commentary to pick up on those clues. If a guy is a free swinger in a certain count, they will mention it. It's one of the best kept secrets about what makes 2K's announcers so good. Those audio cues are driven by a lot of data that is driven by official stats and analysis.Comment
