    Couldn't put it down

I recently threw in World Series 2K3 just to remind myself of what I didn't like about it so as to validate my decision to chose a different game this year. As I went through the game identifying the things that bothered me, I found myself competing and feeling challenged. That is one thing that this game did that I didn't really feel from the other three titles last year. I kept complaining but I couldn't stop playing. I remember during the season games exhaling after throwing strike three. I just felt this game competed better than the rest, maybe this year could be different but we will see. Any thoughts?

Just wanted to add that I really liked All Star last year but I went my first 10 games as the Tigers with a 1.04 era throwing fastballs down the middle 90% of the time and no homeruns from the CPU.

I really liked WSB last year, except for a couple of things:

          1) Stealing was way too easy and unbalanced the entire game
          2) No Xbox Live play

Both of these issues have supposedly been rectified. If so, and XBox Live play is as seamless as the other titles, then this game will likely keep me occupied all summer.

I was a little scared at first because of the lack of updated rosters for online play, because I really wanted ARod on the Yankees and Maddux on the Cubs for online play. FatPitcher said they will be, so I'm not so concerned about rosters anymore. It would be nice to have them next year, but i can do without for one more season.

I'm stoked as hell for WSB2K4. After much thought, I think I'll just wait for it, and forget MVP altogether.

                      Re: Couldn\'t put it down

Yeah, that's the thing about this game, which I also posted in almost every other thread... there were problems with WSB 2K3, no doubt. Some may have been game killers to some. For instance, there was no Zone hitting, there were stealing problems, no infield throws in the dirt, no player scaling, no dynamic schedule changes, no pitching meter, not able to bat in the BTP cam, no choice of one-button swinging (there was only power/contact two swing buttons this year), horrible frequent pointless injuries, bad camera angles, small fields (or big players), horrible swing animations (and pre-loaded swing-steps), terrible wind effects, bad manual replay control, and I could jsut go on and on.

Half of the things on that list were practically necessities that weren't in the game, but MOST were just horrible things that needed to be fixed... the only reasons why ANYBODY would name game killers to this game. A lack of game modes is not a game killer (I'm referring to playable minor leagues), but if another game has it, it's a game seller for most... it doesn't kill this game though.

Anyways, in that rather extensive list, ALL of those things are now the opposite, meaning they have either been fixed, added, tweaked, modified, revamped, alternated, addressed, changed, increased, or even removed.

If we referred to gameplay in games, and NOTHING else (no other modes or anything, just in-game), as long as this game has a great hit variation, then it leads in the Gameplay department BY FAR. There are many things that you can also adjust to your liking, mainly to get the realism factor in.

Nobody understands that they have done ALL of those things, they have addressed them in some of the best possible ways, and while you guys say that it should've been there in the first place, well, it wasn't, so that's a little too bad. I should be saying the same for MVP, good field control should've been in there last year, a good hitting mechanism should've been in there last year as well, but it wasn't. And don't say that it's because it was their first year, because they worked on the game for 18 months, and planned the new engine for YEARS... while WSB 2K3 was on a 9-month schedule, and they also added it to a new system, AND had to add some ESPN integration late in the process aswell... so, for them to do so much last year was nearly impossible, and this year they have the full cycle and such, so they took most of the time probably putting in what was on my list of what was horrible, and also online play, and you guys say that nothing was fixed. Take a look at my list of previous possible "game killers", and see what's wrong with this game now? Virtually, I don't see ANYTHING wrong in the gameplay department this year... the only thing may be some animation problems, probably nothing more. While next year, then they can add all of these new modes and innovative features that add that "novelty" feeling that MVP is getting everybody so psyched about.

So, while people say that nothign has changed, you need to take a better look at some of the drastic things that have changed, but just take it for granted, and avoid it, assuming that it was in the game last year... because it wasn't.

And 2ndBase, good job playing WSB again and being reminded of the glory that the game had, with some of those Gameplay setbacks that have been changed for this year.

The stealing didn't bother me last year. I just slowed down my players with the player editor. By the end of the season the thing that bothered me the most was the lack of player individuality. Too many common faces and no player scaling. I am hoping they have a lot more faces this year since the scaling has been taken care of. I liked the wind effect in last year's game. The swing is ugly but it is very responsive. I really like All Star but it just took too long at times to get the bat through the zone. I don't think anyone could go wrong with any game this year. However I think MVP's minor league system is over hyped. I didn't say it wasn't good, just over hyped.
