BUT... ESPN is still as good as it was last year. The 2 games I loved last year was High Heat and WSB 2k3. I personally feel the new batting in ESPN is great... to me it reminds me of HH, in that you're aiming for where the ball comes in and it's not a given that just because you aimed in the general area that it's a base hit. I tried that theory out by using the pitch preview to see where the ball was coming then tried aiming right at it. I didn't get a hit everytime. In the demo with good hitters like Jeter and Bernie Williams I did.
The pitching won't be as exciting as MVP's, but having that effort meter is at least something different that gives you an option you didn't have last year.
The new camera for the outfield makes the game finally look like it's right in size instead of WSB fields that felt small.
Did ESPN add as many modes or elements that MVP did? Not at all, but did they improve upon the gameplay that was pretty much agreed on by people last year as pretty much the best game...? From a demo in Oct. it sure seems like they added something.
The one thing I'll say that is amazing this year... look how hot the topics of baseball video games have been. Usually this is reserved for Madden vs ESPN 2k series. Who would have thought it last year that us gamers would have MVP, All-Star, ESPN, and MLB all being in contention for the top baseball game of the year. In years past it was pretty easy to tell off of the previews. It's nice that baseball games have finally found some of love it deserves.
Football season is going to be nuts here at OS.
