FPM is a real waste of time, I can't believe Sega spends so much time with something no one will use.

I don't like FPM either, but I do applaud Sega for the effort. Sega is in a tough spot. While their core gameplay has always been solid, they were critisized for minimal extras and poor marketing. FPM probably seemed like a creative way to set itself apart, provide an extra that wasn't just "copying" EA, and generate interest in the game. But while I admire the effort, FPM doesn't float my boat, and I would have preferred them to direct their efforts elsewhere.

Re: Another Poor Review-New Game Informer!

      A few notes:

      1. Game Informer is a sham of a magazine. It is actually published/produced by GameStop. They often use alphas or betas to 'review' games. I wouldn't trust them in a billion years.

      2. OXM also uses early versions of games. They are printed by Imagine. Most of the people from OXM are former official Dreamcast magazine and/or PCXL people. Hence, they suck too.

      3. There is nothing more annoying than reading a review by someone clueless. Usually you get an "I'm not a fan of (sport) but this is a good game". These people should be called out as the money whores they are and immediately thrown in the 'junk reviewer' pile.

      4. Most reviews have an author byline. Find out those people that you like and trust their reviews. GamePro on the other hand, rather than using actual people's names, uses fake ones like "Scary Mutant ******". Quite often the fake author's name is longer than the review, or you don't actually know if the fake names are just one guy going wild. There's another mag to ignore.

      5. Anyone read Nintendo Power? I get the mag just so I can get the free premium (ie Zelda disk). Those reviews have to be the worst. It's like they gave the games to 5 year olds for review. In addition, I think they are still reviewing last year's High Heat Baseball which never came out for the NGC.

The whole idea of why OS was started was just to avoid crap like that. I think they've taken care of this pretty well -- so no for the most part you don't get EXCLUSIVE FIRST REVIEW, but then again, you don't get a 23 page review that seems to only serve a reviewers purpose of "hey, see I played this game because I wrote 23 pages." It's a good balance of both.

Oh but I digress, I still think MVP got way overrated . I am a HUGE MLB fan.

See what really bugs me is the hold that Ea has on the Industry...Espn MLB got Early baseball game nod of the Year from Game Informer Talking praise about it...This was in a issue a couple of months ago..But I kind of question them now because they gave Espn MLB a 7.5 now and MVP a 9.2 or something like that...I think that is really suspect on what's going on..But you know what I love sega sports title EXCEPt this years basketball game and I will continue to buy them...So I'm set hehehehe

Well, last year Game Informer gave ASB the early game of the year award and it turned out to be a distant third behind WSB2K3 and MVP.

On another note, I am not buying ESPN Baseball this year. WSB2K3 to me is the closest thing to a perfect baseball game and the best thing about it is they made it so easy to update it myself. I went through and changed player's names, ratings and moved them to the teams they are now, set up their lineups and pitching rotations based on what will probably be the opening day lineups this season and started another franchise. I am having a blast.
To me the best baseball game of this year is a game from last year. I just re-invented it.

It may look very similar to you, but when you have a PS2 and need a drastic change to the game (in terms of appearance and smoothness), you need the newer version PRONTO!

And, may I ask what algorithm you are using to set the ratings for players? How do you REALLY know what their ratings should be? Also, if you truely have enough time to set the ratings for all the players for all teams then you truely have more time on your hands than most of us. Otherwise, what what good does it do to just the ratings for one team?

You know I'm waiting to play the Game from all these "Glowing" reviews of MVP that made it seem like the 2nd coming I plopped down $40 on MVP that is now Gone. The Game has so many glaring problems that were never mentioned that I cannot believe reviews anymore becasue it looks like the fix is in.

I totally agree with you!!!
