You know I'm waiting to play the Game from all these "Glowing" reviews of MVP that made it seem like the 2nd coming I plopped down $40 on MVP that is now Gone. The Game has so many glaring problems that were never mentioned that I cannot believe reviews anymore becasue it looks like the fix is in.

I totally agree with you!!! See what really bugs me is the hold that Ea has on the Industry...Espn MLB got Early baseball game nod of the Year from Game Informer Talking praise about it...This was in a issue a couple of months ago..But I kind of question them now because they gave Espn MLB a 7.5 now and MVP a 9.2 or something like that...I think that is really suspect on what's going on..But you know what I love sega sports title EXCEPt this years basketball game and I will continue to buy them...So I'm set hehehehe

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Well, last year Game Informer gave ASB the early game of the year award and it turned out to be a distant third behind WSB2K3 and MVP.

On another note, I am not buying ESPN Baseball this year. WSB2K3 to me is the closest thing to a perfect baseball game and the best thing about it is they made it so easy to update it myself. I went through and changed player's names, ratings and moved them to the teams they are now, set up their lineups and pitching rotations based on what will probably be the opening day lineups this season and started another franchise. I am having a blast.
To me the best baseball game of this year is a game from last year. I just re-invented it.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

And, may I ask what algorithm you are using to set the ratings for players? How do you REALLY know what their ratings should be? Also, if you truely have enough time to set the ratings for all the players for all teams then you truely have more time on your hands than most of us. Otherwise, what what good does it do to just the ratings for one team?

Are there Roster Downloads available for WSB2K3 for the Xbox via Action Replay?

I agree with you on pretty much everything. It's always wait until next year and the same repeated built in excuses over and over again. You are dead on about the cycle. Well thought out post.

This is getting to be a very BIG, BIG problem. If I had the power to do so, I'd launch a nation-wide class action lawsuit against game publishers. Why? Because EVERY console we get, the following cycle occurs, with the game publishers pocketing gobs of money and the gamers never really getting a high quality REALISTIC sports game:

                  new console comes out

new hardware capabilities hyped to death

new game comes out, with features that worked fine taken out because "we're learning this new hardware"

next version of game comes out with some of the old features being inserted and called "You talked, we listened, we have a new feature!". yet many things remain unfixed because "we're still learning the technology".

next version of game comes out, this time looking significantly better but STILL having game-killing issues. the excuse we hear THIS time is "we added lots of new features, there simply wasn't enough time to get rid of those bugs. this game is very close to being perfect!".
next version of game comes out and STILL issues have not been resolved graphically or with the AI, and what we hear from the marketing team is "we're stretching the capabilities of the hardware, there just isn't much more we can do. but, hey, that new ConsoleX is coming out!".

                  rinse, repeat.

At some point in time (it's almost two decades later from when sports games started becoming really popular) a publisher is going to have to put out a product that is truely deserving of a 9.5 rating, has ALL of the major A.I. issues resolved, has very FEW minor A.I. and logic issues, looks damn good and plays great.

Or, wil this never happen, simply because we as consumers are suckers for the next new thing?

Bottom line, and this is slanted toward the baseball gaming community (it could easily be applied to other sports genres), we the gamers have spent BILLIONS on software and hardware over the past two decades, and yet we STILL don't have a baseball game out there that could even come close to being a 9.5 rated game.

Okay, so next year the controller responsiveness for XBox is better, the ball actually bounces like it does in real life, pitchers act pitch like their real-life counterparts, hitters actually perform like their real-life counterparts, all those things that make a plain game EXCITING and worthy of a high score in game replay value. At this point in the game, throw out the dynasty mode, minor leaguers, the crib, all that other stuff that is crap in comparison to a plain game of baseball between two teams.

Even if the above things were fixed (guess it's safe to say they won't ever be, or if they are, they'll just take out currently working features), the game would STILL not be worthy of a 9.5 rating. Crowds have NEVER looked even ok in baseball games. The sky has NEVER resembled real life climate. No true rain that affects the game. The stadiums have NEVER looked real close to their real life counterparts.

I feel like I'm just talking to a brick wall, since most folks who complain about games never seem to complain about the things that really matter, that make a plain old game truely worth playing. Am I the ONLY one here who shares the frustration of feeling ripped off over the years, from spening thousands of dollars only to never have a game that was truely fun to play year after year?

Once again, why do companies have to release a new version of sports games every year. No other genre does this. Every time I read a producer say,"We just didn't have enough time to implement this," I cringe. But companies feel the need to satisfy the consumer that expects a new game every year. With downloadable updates, companies can simply update and patch games. But where's the money in that, right. Game publishers make their money on the comeback. Having us shell out $50 dollars every year for a new game is much more profitable.

Look at Halo. A great game and if it were a sports game, we'd already have Halo 4 or something like that. But instead the developers have taken their time to develop the sequel and the gaming public camly waits and you know that you are going to get a quality product, not something rushed. Us sports gamers are the only consumers that constantly accept sub-par products. I read the slider thread for MVP(By no means is this a slam, I respect the hard work and dedication those guys have for sports games)But is it our job to tweak games for programmers. I found myself adjusting sliders more than I actually played the game. That game was clearly rushed, in my opinion, but we just say thank you, may I have another. Just my two cents.

No, it's because people want a new sports game every year so they can play with the new rosters. Not everyone has time to mess around with rosters and stats, and not everyone has thier console connected to the internet. Plus, most people want the game upgraded from year to year.

The non-sports games don't need to be on a year-by-year cycle, but the sports games do. If Madden didn't come out one year, America would be up in arms.
