Once again, why do companies have to release a new version of sports games every year. No other genre does this. Every time I read a producer say,"We just didn't have enough time to implement this," I cringe. But companies feel the need to satisfy the consumer that expects a new game every year. With downloadable updates, companies can simply update and patch games. But where's the money in that, right. Game publishers make their money on the comeback. Having us shell out $50 dollars every year for a new game is much more profitable.

Look at Halo. A great game and if it were a sports game, we'd already have Halo 4 or something like that. But instead the developers have taken their time to develop the sequel and the gaming public camly waits and you know that you are going to get a quality product, not something rushed. Us sports gamers are the only consumers that constantly accept sub-par products. I read the slider thread for MVP(By no means is this a slam, I respect the hard work and dedication those guys have for sports games)But is it our job to tweak games for programmers. I found myself adjusting sliders more than I actually played the game. That game was clearly rushed, in my opinion, but we just say thank you, may I have another. Just my two cents.

    ... You're right.

No, it's because people want a new sports game every year so they can play with the new rosters. Not everyone has time to mess around with rosters and stats, and not everyone has thier console connected to the internet. Plus, most people want the game upgraded from year to year.

The non-sports games don't need to be on a year-by-year cycle, but the sports games do. If Madden didn't come out one year, America would be up in arms.

Well, last year Game Informer gave ASB the early game of the year award and it turned out to be a distant third behind WSB2K3 and MVP.

On another note, I am not buying ESPN Baseball this year. WSB2K3 to me is the closest thing to a perfect baseball game and the best thing about it is they made it so easy to update it myself. I went through and changed player's names, ratings and moved them to the teams they are now, set up their lineups and pitching rotations based on what will probably be the opening day lineups this season and started another franchise. I am having a blast.
To me the best baseball game of this year is a game from last year. I just re-invented it.

i had to do all that last year too to fix the bugs, plus its fun to update/FIX the ratings.

Here is a recomendation about the Stealing issue if you play your games - Make a roster copy of your main roster , and on that copy go through and lower all the base stealing Ratings. Make the best base stealers around 70 and the rest really low. Go through with SPEED and lower the very highest down to like 85. Go through on Catchers and make most catchers a 90/90 ARm/AccurAcy rating - (of course Piazza gets like 80/80 and known defensive catchers get 99/99)

I did all this in a couple days and when i was done the stolen bases were much more realistic for human played games.

But even if you don't have XBOX live or PS2 internet connection, you may have a friend who does... Like I do...

And look, although in the past I have gone a year here and there without buying a football game (Lemme see, Madden92-94, 96, NFL2k3) I would be a little mad if I COULDN'T buy a football game any particular year.

... But that's not the point. The point is that THEY KNOW we'll buy a game every year and they can just laugh all the way to the bank about it! Football videogames are just like real football... It's an unstoppable juggernaut that people will eat up even if the product leaves much to be desired... And again... They know this... Really, all sports and sports games are like this to a degree.

But hey, I mean... It's football right? What are you gonna do? Wait, football? Did someone say football! Oooh, ooh, where, where, where, (pant, pant, pant) where, where, where!

Even with baseball... or with ANY SPORT EA puts out, people will buy it. They know this. I think they have very little customer concern... They're only concerned with your wallet.

Nice discussion and all, but it really has gotten off topic.

Maybe one day this year, we will hear something new about ESPN Baseball..
