    GMR Magazine Review 7.5

I just received my issue of GMR, not a great mag, I know but they gave ESPN a 7.5 and the only knock against the game that the had was the crowd noise, all of their other comments would seem to indicate that they like it. Below is exactly what the review says.

    Re: GMR Magazine Review 7.5

For one can you trust a reviewer that gives that much credit to MVP for being a 'sim'?

The crowd has always been a problem with ESPN, maybe the developers have only been to Japanese baseball games in which the crowd is relatively subdued. Crowd noise and the fly-swatter bat swing are two things really hurt the immersion factor of ESPN for me but hardly bring the level of gameplay down to a 7.5. The game gets too much right to knock it that hard for asthetic reasons.

FPB, well, it's an option. A wasted option and time that could have been better spent on other features, but it's still optional. Confedence meter? Yeah, I wonder about that as well since it looks more gimicky than usefull - much like MVP's chemestry rating, but I guess Sega feels like they have to add all these meters to there game now just to stay up on the competition...although I personally don't feel any of the meters are applicable to baseball. Please don't let the trend spill over to football games - I can't even fathom how lame it will be dropping back for a pass then charging your meter for the throw.

So the reviewer in essence gave ESPN a 7.5 cause the crowd noise was quiet? I'm starting to see that reviewers who include a statement like "ESPN is bad because MVP is..." really don't have a clue. MVP is alot of fun, but to make it out to be the 'best baseball sim of 2004' and 'any other game can't hold its jock' is just rediculous.

We seem to get these little "wonderful" extras. High Heats "two on two showdown" was touted by the maker saying his staff couldn't put the game down playing this. It was awful. These extras that they put in could be better spent on gameplay. It seems every year baseball games get these little bells and whistles and they overlook glaring issues in the gameplay.

I guess people who buy the games would rather play "two on two showdown" type stuff rather than a solid game of baseball.

One funny thing in the review is that near the end they state that the franchise mode is deep enough, probably comparing it to MVP (which has already been proven to be a broken mode) and useless, you should probably just play season mode in MVP since player progression is non existant.

the reason why ESPN Baseball isn't getting high ratings is because of FPM, lack of "WOW" factor and the atmosphere being brought down by the corwd noise. The swing animations do not seem to have been corrected and maybe there isn't that much of a difference ebtween this year and last year.

the fact that the gameplay will still be great, along with the fact that I want an online baseball game results in me biuing the game in the near future.
