Double Switch Question

I've watched baseball most of my life, but I never got deep into it as far as strategies goes.

Can someone explain double switch and give me a scenario when I should or shouldn't use it?

Double switch is when you bring two players into the game at once; a pitcher and a fielder.

However the new pitcher bats in the old fielders batting spot and the new fielder bats in the old pitcher's batting slot, usually 9th.

It is best to do this late in the game, when your pitcher leads off the next inning and you want to change him. Select double switch and select a fielder that bats lets say...7th or 8th in the batting order. Now the next inning instead of the pitcher leading off you have the new fielder leading off. This just delays things and gives you more time before the pitchers spot in the batting order comes around..
