Re: Where are the long term tests of ESPN?

I've simmed a few seasons ahead after my franchise was ruined by a stupid owner goal.

I saw some things that were kind of bad.

CPU Roster Managment was horrendous. The Red Sox had Nomar and Manny in the minor leagues. Manny got traded for Mark Prior eventually and Nomar was "called up" on July 31st.

Almost every team had an abundance of players at one position. For instance one team had 10 catchers, another had 8 second basemen. The Red Sox had no catchers at all and were using David Ortiz as catcher.

Even Barry Bonds was playing in the Minors.

I started another Franchise and simmed ahead again and things seemed more normal with none of this stuff, so I don't know if it's buggy or not.

Another thing about the All-Star game, anyone notice that the league that wins DOES NOT get home field advantage, even though the game says so? In fact, the league that was on the losing end gets home field.

I also noticed while doing all this simming that I was frequently asked by my scout if I wanted to try and sign a foreign prospect. When I play my regular franchise though, i play one game at a time, I have never been offered to sign a prospect while playing one game at a time or simming one at a time. I think this is a bug.

Since almost every game now has its own forum, would it be possible to take things to the next level and have two different forums for each game? One for the casual gamer who just wants to say, "This game ROCKS", "Which team should I use?", "I just threw a no-hitter!!!", etc.; and one for the more serious gamer who likes to delve into the deeper aspects of the game (whether that means finding bugs/glitches/errors, or finding out that things work exactly the way they're supposed to).

There seems to be a great divide amongst these two types of gamers here at OS, with alot of unnecessary hostility. Just an idea, not trying to start a flamefest. And before anyone says it's a crazy idea, remember back when it was considered a crazy idea for each game to have its own forum.

Re: Where are the long term tests of ESPN?

to me this just furthers the debate of do people want a franchise or a season. Bonds is what, 39? In 5 years he'll be 44. You'd think at that point he'd retire but who knows, maybe he'll try to hang on like McGriff or the big cat. His skills will have gone down and maybe that team felt he belonged in the minors. In real life the manager wouldn't put him there bc of his names but in video games the name means nothing.

Now Manny being down his first year is strange. I don't know how injuries are handled but Nomar could've been hurt and working his way back, but I think the hard part is people want things to be true to life but want player progression. Those are two completely different things.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. This happened in the second year and neither one was injured. Here's what I think, the CPU was probably planning on trading them (maybe they have their own "owner goals"?), that's why I think Manny got traded eventually and Nomar was brought back up the day of the trade deadline, because they couldn't deal him. this is only a theory. if it's true it's stupid, you're not paying these guys to sit around in the minors, they should be playing so your team can do well, plus, shouldn't they be racking up stats in the majors to increase their appeal on the trade market?

Another bad move I saw when i started a new franchise was the Sox trade Mueller for some crap players and then sign Aaron Boone (the irony, just one week into the season. I had just started the season and was simming a few games to get my Yankees stats going a bit and noticed he was missing from their lineup.

So I reloaded my franchise to start the season over, and they didn't do this again.

It just seems a little random but kind of worrisome that the CPU can be prone to such poor decision making. On the other hand, if i try and repeat the same scenario and reload my franchise, the AI behaves fine.

I guess to really get a better idea i would have to run like ten tests on this thing, simming seasons and all that and see how often it happens out of ten times. But I don't have time for that! I need to play right now!

see this is kinda what i was getting at

mvp trashers point out that it's arcade and that dynasty's broken. they claim that espn is the "best baseball game of all time", "the game for serious simmers", etc. yet none of these "serious simmers" have taken any time to make sure dynasty is not broken on espn. i actually saw one poster say that he was going to stop reading these boards because he'd rather not know about any game killing bugs because he was having too much fun playing espn. while that's fine for that guy and probably many others, it goes against all these people who can't stop talking about espn as the ultimate sim game. i guess i'm calling out these people to kinda point out why they claim to be "serious simmers" but are content to hope that espn's franchise isn't broken instead of actually making sure it's not before making their claims.

see this is kinda what i was getting at

mvp trashers point out that it's arcade and that dynasty's broken. they claim that espn is the "best baseball game of all time", "the game for serious simmers", etc. yet none of these "serious simmers" have taken any time to make sure dynasty is not broken on espn. i actually saw one poster say that he was going to stop reading these boards because he'd rather not know about any game killing bugs because he was having too much fun playing espn. while that's fine for that guy and probably many others, it goes against all these people who can't stop talking about espn as the ultimate sim game. i guess i'm calling out these people to kinda point out why they claim to be "serious simmers" but are content to hope that espn's franchise isn't broken instead of actually making sure it's not before making their claims.
