Key Guys you ALWAYS pick up in ANY Franchise

In every Franchise, I normally will try to have the same managers (anyone else do this?), and it dawned on me that I tend to pick up the same guys for just about every season I play. I was wondering if others do this, because I found it interesting that I will tend to go for the same guys. Those guys are:

RP R. Dempster (CHC) - I've alwaysed like him
SP/RP - M. Redman (Oak) - Again, somebody I've alwaysed like (ecs. how nasty he was in last years game).
C - My created guy (FA) - hes only a 65 and has a C+ potention (tho I set it on B-) - power hitting catcher.

I'm interested to see if others have different players they almost always go for. Also, anyone know a good young (possibly cheap) Closer....I've been struggling with my control with Octavio Dotel (I will nomally uses the 'Stros for my Franchises, either them or Tampa Bay)

i used to be able to depend on guys like Ron Gant or Rickey Henderson to have "one more good year"

In drafts i always try to find under valued talent... i look for guys who could play multiple positions or could hit well against righty's or leftys. For example Melvin Mora could play shortstop/centerfield/3rd/etc.. (at shortstop he is more valuable then his price) , Guys who field well and kill a particular hand of pitching , Pitchers with low HR and 2BL ratings against a particular hand

If I just do a GM role, then I tend to go for the same guys because they tend to have common things, like be good for the price and fit a particular need (kind of like what the person above was saying with Mora and others).

If its for playing a season and not just GMing...if a game (like Sega's, of course) has good/realistic defensive play, I try to get a centerfielder with outstanding range. Last year, I would keep going for Mark Kotsay (and often try to get Jay Witasik also) because he was dead nasty in the field, and the M's always asked too much for Mike Cameron. And I often like to have similar relievers, just so I feel comfortable going to the pen and know their strengths and weaknesses.

So far, I've kept it real. I haven't made any transactions through nine games. I like to take what Sabean gave me to start out with, even if I don't like the team.
