Pick Off throws

Anybody have any luck with pick off throws. I have not even come close to getting anyone yet? Wondering if it even helps to throw over.

I get picked off all the fricking time! That long pause gets me everytime. I just freeze, panic and hit the 'x' button instead of the damn retreat button
