M.D's semi-faq on Online Issues & Connection Speed

Yo this isn't somuch of a fuk in moreso it is an attempt to clarify some specific online issues and to start a thread where we can discuss observations about online issues.

    SPEED vs. LAG
As far as connection speed and lag is concerned ,these are my thoughts; There seems to be a slight but noticable difference in reaction time when playing online. Meaning if you want to hit a high fastball or rob a homerun you have to be even quicker online then you normally would offline. I wouldn't call it a lag , but in a way it is a slight lag. This seems to always be present. I have remedied this by reducing the pitch speed by 1 of my normal game. - So for example i play w/ "fast" speed online when i would normally use "real" speed offline. I have really gotten comfortable hitting online and just had a breakout 22-2 game online. However online offense does take a little adjusting to for the delay issue.
Now , another online issue - check swings- my experience is that i can check a contact swing nearly always , but online to check a power swing it seems to be only about 50/50 chance of checking.
Lets talk about the dirty b3yotch known as LAG. When the players move in slow motion , a changeup seems like a knuckleball and your chances of hitting a fastball or laying off bad pitches is worse then if you got your lazy *** out to a real baseball team... yes this is LAG. Im going to be stubborn and insist that 90% of lag can be prevented by checking your opponents connection speed.
If i am challenged more then once by a player who is not visable on the screen i might accept and ask him to create a game so i can see his connection speed. Except for friends , I do not play anyone who has less then 5 connection speed. When i have matched 5 green bars w/ an opponent I don't think i have ever had any lag beyond what i was talking about earlier with the slight delay. I havent seen any slow motion crap thats for sure. Still , I have heard a few complaints about players seeing 5bars and there still being serious lag. If this happens to anyone , if you could reply to this post and list your discription of problem, pitch speed, difficulty level that would help troubleshoot it. thanks

Records questions - well my records seem to work fine. I have noticed when i first long on it might show me as 0-0 for some reason and then after a game or something it shows my true record ? I hear people say that it doesn't keep records at all for them ?
Records seem like a server or xboxlive issue rather then something saved to the xbox ?

    Online Etiquette
Try to have your communicator around at least for ground rules and stuff.. why not ask before you change rules/options... don't choose extremely similar uniforms as opponent u knucklehead... , use your bullpen to relieve - not other starters... if u use a voice mask please pass on the highpitched or metallic variety... consider letting a cutscene or 2 play... do not rapid fire pitch the nanosecond that the pitcher has the ball...

but MD, thats to long for us to read , plus it tries to actually adress the problems in a scientific way

MD just leave us alone so we can do 100 seperate topics whining about online's problems. We don't want to use logic and share data to see what we can improve. leave us alone M.D.

LOL!! Understood and well put....but you also have to understand just because you can get a game in most of the time when the opponent is at 5 green and the same video settings...does not mean everyone can. I can play a friend of mine in ESPN football and have a nice smooth game...but put in baseball and you have different story. My only point was if online play was the big news with this version....they dropped the ball. Did they overlook the friend's list or the scoreboards? How much work did they actually put into "Live" mode? I do not think they put enough. Also you would think they would put something on there website stating that they are aware and working on the problem....maybe they have ..but I have not seen it. Also since Blue Shift has been dropped...is this game supported anymore? Does Blue Shift really care?

Yea i agree Triggerfish. You are right they need to put good people and time on the Live portion of the game. Not only trouble shooting and de-bugging , but getting creative with the options...

                            New issue !

tonight i was playing and i had an INVISABLE MAN BUG.
the batter dissapeared and all you could see was the bat in mid air. The first time it happened was the other guy at bat. I threw to pickoff attempt @third base and it was back to normal for the next pitch. Then in like the 8th inning happens to me w/ no one on base. we tried pausing and stuff , then finally pitched it - and the game froze w/ a buzzing noise.

Anyone experience this ? or similar
