Great ending to my Cubs game

I just played my most exciting game of ESPN yet. I'm 70+ games into my Cubs franchise, 5.5 back behind the Astros and playing them at Wrigley. Roy Oswalt and Kerry Wood duel each other. Oswalt strikes me out 16 (!) times, but I manage a solo HR off him. Wood is also pounding the Astros hitters, giving up only a solo HR to Berkman.

We get to the 12th inning, still 1-1, and I bring in Borowski. He proceeds to walk Biggio, give up a single to Kent, and then a 3-run bomb to Hidalgo. I'm down 4-1. Luckily, the Astros already used Octavio Dotel, so they bring in Dave Veres.

Patterson gets a single, then after an out Sosa hits a double. I try to score Patterson from first, but Berkman makes one of those insane ESPN throws. I see I'm going to get nailed at the plate, so I try to get Patterson back. He's too far down the line and gets thrown out on his way back to third. Two outs on a stupid baserunning move on my part.

Derek Lee is up next and casually hits a 2-run homer to right center. I'm down 4-3, and am kicking myself over the costly baserunning blunder now. Next up is Carols Lee (who I traded for). He hits one of those craxy infield choppers that bounces high enough for him to beat the throw to first.

Astros have had enough of Veres and bring in Dan Maceli to face Todd Walker. Second pitch, Walker takes Maceli deep to right on a cut-scene walk-off game winning 2-run HR. I win a key game 5-4. Actually jumped up off the couch like an idiot when I hit it.

    I absolutely love this game!

Good job, man. Those Astros are pesky. I'm 103 games in, and they won't go away. I have the third best record in the majors, and they have the fourth (1 game behind us). Have seven games against them upcoming in August, though, so wish me luck.

Great story Brando. I had a similar situation last night. I was down 2-1 with nobody on and 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Polanco and Thome had two out singles and then Burrell hit a walk-off homerun, which was my first walkoff HR in 20 games.

This game is awesome. Every single game is unique. One game I will get blown out 11-4 and the next I will throw a one-hitter (the hit was early in the game). For every walk-off homerun I have a situation like I had tonight were I load the bases down 5-3 with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and then the closer gets Abrea to foul out and then K's Burrell and Thome.

Yeah, Leebo, Walker is becoming this year's Alex Gonzalez for me -- that was his second walk-off HR of the season.

I have had a similar variety in my experiences. I've gotten shelled early, blown leads, thrown a few shutouts, had some awesome extra innings battles. It's a very entertaining game because you never know what to expect.

                      Great story...

I've had the same kinda variety other people are talking about. I (the Cards) has a series against the Marlins which was a complete pitchers duel each game...I think there might have been less than 10 runs scored total in the three game series. Then I played the Mets and just pounded them. Heh, in one game against the Mets, two of their relievers, Franco and Heilman(sp?), issued 6 straight walks to me to walk in 3 runs and gave me the lead.

WSB2K3 was pretty much just a stats race for me....seeing how many records I could break. ESPN MLB this year has me just hoping I make the playoffs!
