Re: does this game make stupid trades like
To my knowledge, no.
That was a game problem in NBA. Baron Davis was traded three times in five years in my game. When I was playing with the Kings, the Pistons offered me Ben Wallace for Peja. -

Re: does this game make stupid trades like
I'll go with "yes and no." There's always a reason for the trades, like a team is out of it and they want to dump salary and get young players, or a team wants to get rid of a player who is a free agent at the end of the year...but ultimately, sometimes there is a LOT of trading. One season I GMed, Vlad Guerrero got traded twice, which is a bit absurd to me. The first trade was to the Orioles after the Angels got off to a horrible start, and then the Orioles traded him to the Marlines for Cabrera and a pitcher. I don't remember the O's-Angels trade, but I remember it was a fine deal...just the idea of Vlad getting traded twice in a season irked me a little. Overall, there is probably more movement than in real life, but I didn't get NBA this year so I can't make a direct comparison.Comment

Re: does this game make stupid trades like
I tried to play GM Mode but I feel like it gives somewhat unrealistic goals. So I'm just doing a regular Franchise with the Mets. And the 3rd game of the season the Boston Red Sox traded David Ortiz, Jason Varitek and some pitcher who I can't remember. For Todd Helton and Steve Peterson of the Rockies. To me this is somewhat an unrealsitic trade, but considering Ortiz and Varitek are soon to be free agents it makes sense and the Sox do need a solid First Baseman.
But another trade that weirded the hell out of me, the Yankees traded Sheffield for Jessie Foppert and Ray Durham. The only reason I could think they would do this is that they need an everyday 2nd baseman.Comment

Re: does this game make stupid trades like
I said this before in another thread. The trades make sense in terms of what's happening in the season, but they don't always reflect what would happen in real life. You can always tell what the CPU is doing -- cutting salary, going for youth, filling holes due to injury, etc. But there are trades that wouldn't happen in real life (I saw Pudge get traded twice this year, the White Sox pulled another white flag and traded Magglio despite being only a few games out of first).
The real issue is probably that there are a few too many name players shopped during the year, and not enough prospect/bench trades. However, I do like that there are a lot of uneven trades, and generally find the trading AI pretty good outside of the "fan favorite" factor.Comment
