Yup I dunno either. I was rationalizing based on the information we've been given. I think my hypothesis is correct for the most part.

Hopefully, you're right. It makes sense so people don't sit and throw changeups on the corners all day long. I always have the worst time hitting changeups in video games.

That was the first I had heard of that aspect of the game. I guess I missed it when reading the previews so I was pretty confused!

Anyhow, March 1st can't come soon enough! MVP and ESPN for me. Would be MLB as wel if I had a PS2!

They're trying to get people to mix up their pitch selection rather than throwing a certain pitch all the time.

I think that is pretty realistic. Yes some pitchers can get away with throwing a fastball 3 times in a row but not every pitcher can do that.
It isn't realisitc. The pitcher starts throwing the pitch worse the more he uses it in this game. It isn't that the batter is picking it up better. You will loose velocity, break, accuracy etc. the more you throw a pitch this makes no sense. It isn't a big part of baseball at all apart from the human side of things, and isn't at all the way they incorporate it, the player/cpu should get better at timing their swing on a pitch that they see far more often, not the other way around.

I agree with you on the chang-ups joeboo. Something ESPN should do next year is do a system to read a change-up grip somehow. for instance a realistic solution MVP is giving you a color coded system to represent a grip, like a change-up grip. that is how real players figure out what the pich is going to be along with the rotation on the ball, the tail it has will instinctively give you more information on its direction/speed because you don't get any great depth perception out of a video game. MLB isn't doing anything, but still, nothing is probably a better solution than making the pitcher get worse at those pitches the more he uses them, that is just a step backwards imo. Right not MLB 2006 still looks like the most realistic game, I don't see any problems yet besides a glitch they said that would be fixed in the final version.

As for the other things, I just think the awkward clipping (running threw defenders on the baselines) during rundowns, the strange swings wierd 180 follow-thru and the funny looking bats just take away from the atmosphere and create and awkward feeling game. That is why these things are important to me. I just think swing animations have to be right on. I don't even know why they can't get a bat to look like a real bat, it shouldn't be that hard.

Probably the same reason EA didn't add manual diving/leaping in MVP 2003... they just didn't have the time with everything else they had in the game.

They did, it was just too hard to for the most part. Supposedly its fixed and if you can time it right you can dive for a flyball.

Also I don't get the comparison, how is not adding something based on lack of time the same as adding something that shouldn't be in the game in the first place?
