    Designed for which system?

Sometimes I hear that games are 'made' for one console and 'ported' to another console. While I think I understand what this means in the broader sense, I don't fully understand why this makes a particular game better on 1 system over another.

My question is: "Does anyone know which system all the basebakll games are 'made for'?

    Re: Designed for which system?

all 2k titles= made for Xbox, they port over all the games to the other systems which sometimes leaves out some of the best stuff. (the whole halftime show thing in ESPN NFL2k5 is a great example) It'll basically be the same as the Xbox but little graphical things won't be there.

MVP= PS2, it's been widely known that EA builds their games with the PS2 in mind which leads to some posters argueing that they should build their games with the Xbox in mind. They've never done that because of a tiff between EA and MS. Relations are changing however I don't think you'll ever see a game from EA that will take advantage of MS' superior tech so far.

MLB= PS2 obviously since it's Sony's own company and they only make games for the PS2.

Yep, Xbox version will feature anti-aliasing, bump-mapping, self-shadowing, Triple-Pass Rendering, 60 FPS, custom soundtracks, 480p (hopefully 1080i and widescreen, 720p is doubtful), everything high resolution, pictures can be saved and put into the Skybox via hard drive, entire game can be replayed (like ESPN NFL 2K5's Gamecast), and finally... any Xbox Live downloads.
        Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

EAs bread and butter was the PS2 crowd..but that's changing so I would guess later this year you will start seeing games made from the xbox. (hopefully!)

Thank you to both SportsmanTO and Blzer for such quick replies. You answered my question perfectly. This is when the boards are at their best.

Very true, Ea now sees Microsoft as a dominate player and might change it's approach when the next gen systems hit the market in 2005.

It's not like EA doens't have enough people to work on a game 100% for the XBox or Xbox 2.

There's at least 150 people of their 200 man team on Madden that just sits there for the past 3yrs.
