Absolutely not. All of the 2k games are built on the XBOX and then ported over to the PS2. This probably means that the XBOX version has been done for about a month. Then while they are finishing the port for the PS2 they start getting the packaging ready for the XBOX. When they finish the port they start packaging the PS2 versions. They get this ready for the release date. Which if you remember, up until late last week, was 3/1.
I think that EA probably did surprise them by putting their game out a week early. TT had 2 options then...hold both versions until their release date, or get the version that is ready to ship out and get the other version out ASAP after that. What would have been the better decision? I think that some of the people on this board who are only getting one game this year would have gotten MVP because it is out already, even though it is only a one week difference. So they probably got a couple of extra sales out of the XBOX, although the confusion around the PS2 version not showing up in stores with the XBOX version appears to have really pissed off some of their PS2 consumers making it probably a wash. I'm an XBOX owner, and I have the game, but if I was a TT executive I probably would have just held both versions for the extra week (till 3/1) so that they shipped together. Anyone who had this game on their wishlist would have bought it anyway, even if MVP was the first game to shelves. Besides that, IT'S FREAKIN FEBRUARY!!! There ain't a whole lot of people who are just popping into their local EB Games on a whim to see if the new baseball games are out. The only people buying this game right now are the zealots (like those of us at the Op. Sports Boards).
In summary, I think TT/VC caused themselves some unnecessary aggravation with this...and I don't think they are gaining much (if anything) with this move anyway.
