    This game isn't playable online...

Dang, I'm going crazy here... I've played 6 games online, a bunch more offline, but there are too many gameplay problems to enjoy baseball online...

    1. Nearly every hit is a line drive to a infielder... This must have happened in 12 consecutive at bats...

    2. The fielders have waaaay to much range... I mean base hits through the gap are non existent because there is no gap. The fielders cover ground too quickly and the only chance to get a base hit is to be safe on an infield single... Not to mention with the new max fielding, its crazy. Sure it looks beautiful but some of the plays the infielders make are ridiculous, its like they are traveling at warp speed...

    3. The pitchers are all gold glovers. Actually they are all super vacuums... While the infielders take away an chance at a groundball through the bases, the pitcher takes away any pitch whatsoever up the middle...

    4. Camera angles online, to my knowledge cant be changed or different for each user...

    5. It seems like if I'm scoring runs it’s either because I hit a hr, or luckily got on base with an infield base hit... There aren’t really a lot of singles, doubles, ect... Small ball isn't there, it seems like it’s all or nothing...

    6. Pitching... The K-Zone is an amazing idea, I love it, unfortunately its flawed. Due to the fact you cant remove the K-Zone cursor or the strike zone, it is super accurate... Combined with the fact that pitchers don’t fatigue quickly enough if they don’t throw as hard as they can. Pedro pitched 12 innings online and was just past half stamina... Starters can paint corners all day long, literally. On the plus side the pressure situations are done perfectly.

    7. Hitting... There is actually timing based hitting whether people realize it or not... If you just press the A button on xbox and time it, it will make contact, no need to aim at all which again waters down online play. However I believe you must aim with the B button, but I'm not sure about that one. Kind of mixed results upon testing...

    8. Also there are camera mishaps that occur. You'll notice when you bunt the ball that it goes into this "bunt vision" kind of low to the ground and wide viewed... Anyway if you hit a ground ball and it bounces in the dirt by homeplate then proceeds through the infield it will stay in the "bunt vision" making it difficult to field. Is this a big deal, not even close, but it's still there.

That’s about it, but as you can see these problems destroy online play... They are existent in single player but I assume sliders could fix some of the problems...

This is by no means meant to start a flam war, I don’t even have MVP yet... I simply bought 2k5 on release today, and after playing all day long (took the day off) I found all these problems...

I personally don’t think online play is an option now for me at least. Hopefully sliders can salvage the single player aspect of the game.

On the bright side, the game has sooo much potential that I already cant wait for next years.

I'd love to hear any thoughts, comments, suggestions.

BTW everthing I tested was on all-star difficulty

    Thanks

Re: This game isn't playable online...

I've played 2 games online, and had a blast.

    1. Nearly every hit is a line drive to a infielder... This must have happened in 12 consecutive at bats...
Haven't seen that. I get a decent mix of hits.

Again, I've seen some amazing catches ... but I've also ripped it through the gaps.

    3. The pitchers are all gold glovers. Actually they are all super vacuums... While the infielders take away an chance at a groundball through the bases, the pitcher takes away any pitch whatsoever up the middle...
Definitely can't say I've played enough to comment. I've seen 3-4 balls fielded by the pitcher, and they didn't do much exceptional.

    4. Camera angles online, to my knowledge cant be changed or different for each user...
    This sucks ....
    5. It seems like if I'm scoring runs it’s either because I hit a hr, or luckily got on base with an infield base hit... There aren’t really a lot of singles, doubles, ect... Small ball isn't there, it seems like it’s all or nothing...
I'll let you know when I score a run.

    6. Pitching... The K-Zone is an amazing idea, I love it, unfortunately its flawed. Due to the fact you cant remove the K-Zone cursor or the strike zone, it is super accurate... I'm not finding this at all. What level are you playing at? I'm finding it pretty unforgiving as small mistakes can easily lead to meatballs down the middle of the plate.

    7. Hitting... There is actually timing based hitting whether people realize it or not... Not sure on this .... but does this have anything to to with smacking it to the infielders?

    8. Also there are camera mishaps that occur. You'll notice when you bunt the ball that it goes into this "bunt vision" kind of low to the ground and wide viewed... true.

On the plus side, it performs well ... BaseBurner is incredibly fun against an online player ... the managerial interface is nice, and allows for quick adjustments ... it's just generally fun online.

maybe you need to play against a better player who varies pitches better and make a point NOT to use Pedro...you're can't analyze a game as "too easy" or "too hard" when you're using one of the best players in the game....

If you played ESPN NHL using just the allstar teams you might not think it was in balance, either.

I'll try to use another pitcher and examine the results, however I dont know how much that will effect it. There is also still the trouble of line outs and fielders range which hopefully can be corrected.

Did anyone else notice the option when creating an unranked game to use custom sliders? I could have swore I saw that when setting up a game last night to play with a buddy.

BTW, we had a blast. Played on all-star level.

Re: This game isn't playable online...

Well I used another pitcher today. I chose Kris Benson today, and pitching was a better experience in terms of fatigue, accuracy ect. The real fun occurs when I have to bring in relief pitchers and its a pressure situation, wow, I love it...

While I did notice a few more varied hits, I'm still seeing a lot of line drive outs to the infield and pitchers... That really has become the most annoying thing atm. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong in terms of swinging, or not using the B button (xbox) enough or too much.

Anyway I'd appreciate any info as far as limiting line drive outs (without sliders btw as this is for online play)

Thanks for the feedback thus far.

As for unranked games, I prefer ranked games, not because I care about being the best or anything, just because ranked games are yet another stat to go along with baseball, and like most baseball fans, I'm a big stat fan.

                        Thanks again.
