Fixes for some of the problems

Usually I just post at DigtialSportsPage and lurk here, but their site is having "issues", so I'll post the things I've done to allieviate some of the problems I had with the game.

    - Lack of walks, and balls thrown: The sliders definitely need to be adjusted here. I bumped DOWN (yes down) the slider for pitch variability 20 points. The slider description says moving the slider to the right increases pinpoint accuracy, so I went the other way. I also bumped down the 3 AI throw strikes sliders (overall, when ahead, when behind) 20 points.

    - Decreased my contact 20 and increased power by 10. I like 1 button mode, and since they don't have that option this year these adjustments allow the contact button to be used as 1 button mode.

    - Changed the AI sliders for tkaing balls AND strikes by 10-20 each so they don't swing at everything.

    - Passed balls/Wild pitches: This appears to be linked to the new "pressure" feature. You can't explicitly turn this off, but in the presentation options you can turn off the on-screen indicator. I'm not 100% this did anything, but since I made the adjustment I had 0 passed balls in my next 1 1/2 games.

    - Better batting camera: This wasn't real obvious, so I'll share it. If you change the batting view to Low instead of low zoomed, the zoom slider works to bring this view in closer. With the Low camera and the zoom set to 85 it feels like 2k4.

    - The in-game save feature is gone, but at least there is a hurry up basbeball setting and you can use gamecast to finish out games.

Hope these help those having problems with the game in these areas.

Hmmmm. I'll try turning the pressure indicator off. Passed balls are my biggest problem right now. I can live with the rest at this point.

Unfortunately, JackB1 and I tried about 10 times to play online tonight and it wouldn't let us start the game

I spent the night tweaking MVP and I'm really starting to enjoy that game. I'll still give 2K5 lots of more playtime though.

I sure hope that's what disallows so many wild pitches. I definitely knew that this was linked to that... to what extent I wasn't sure.

I'll try it now. There was just a passed ball, and Leither has his pressure halfway up.

        **EDITED**

Didn't work. After I turned it off, there were three passed balls in a row.

Great work, Matthew (this is Slumber from DSP... shame about the site outages). Keep us updated on the pressure/wild pitch situation. It'd be hilarious if turning off the indicator managed to disable the feature, but there might be some kind of first year, work-in-progress logic to it, that we can exploit to our advantage.

I'm having a total love affair with MVP, but I'd definitely like to get this one in workable condition. I do appreciate what it brings to the table.

EDIT: Just read Blzer's post. Poop.

Re: Fixes for some of the problems

I have noticed MUCH fewer past balls on All-Star level. In Pro I saw quite a few...

Similarly, the AI is much more discerning. The biggest problem on the higher levels is getting hits. You can get the ball in play, but the AI always seems to just be waiting where you hit it, and they are much better users of their boost.

I will probably have my sliders ready for the first release sometime tommrow or Saturday.

But so far I've had a 13 inning game pitching duel, 3 games with about 12 total runs, 5 games with under 10 runs, and no games with over 15 runs total.

Home runs are hit pretty realistically with maybe 1 or 2 per game sometimes more. Almost no 3b, but a fair number of 2b. Bunt for hits are used by the AI when appropriate, and sac. bunts are used well.

I'm trying to get the AI pitching figured out though...They are still throwing too few "meat" balls. They are also still only throwing about 15 - 20 balls...so I think the stuff in this slider suggestion may work.

Slumberland, I'm warming to MVP as well. It took a bump of the hitting power slider and a reduction in the pitch speed by 15 to get me going. Now I can hit and it has increased my enjoyment tremendously.

The fielding in MVP absolutely crushes 2K5 this year.

I have thrown a few passed balls, and it always happens when I totally screw up my K-zone. I wonder what settings you could adjust for the AI that would keep them throwing balls, but increase the accuracy so that they are't as wild. Time to experiment!

I've played games with the "AI throw strikes" slider at default, and with it down to 25... they throw too many wild pitches no matter what, and no matter the difficulty level.

And yes, the fielding in MVP just CRUSHES 2K5 this year.
