For the price of MLB 2k5 you could have taken your girlfriend out to the movies. Well, I say, take your girlfriend out to the movies instead of spending the 20 bucks on this game.
I genuinely feel ripped off even at 20 bucks, this game is crap.

Not feasible since I ordered it with an online store and I could only get it exchanged and even then Id have to pay 15% "restocking fee" as well as the cost of sending it back. So I'd have to buy a game I dont want and would have to even add some money to it, nah, I guess in my memory I'll mark this down as 20 bucks spent on a bad movie and a bad girlfriend.

MOST people on ANY board are saying that 2004 was better than 2005 - you saw a post or two and now are making statements that are not true.

Big fan of the 2K series, but I have to say that MLB left me wanting after a couple of days. If you are only interested in presentation and commentary, there is probably not another videogame in any sports genre that does as good a job as this one. I was completely pulled into the game the first couple of nights by the commentary of Joe Morgan and John Miller alone. It really is fantastic.

However, when I got past that, the gameplay just didn't do it for me. I even started finding glitches (I won't call them bugs) in the cutscenes. An example of that is whenever they show a left handed hitter in the on deck circle, or in the split screen animation with the pitcher, the lefties have left handed helmets (covering the right ear), but are swinging RIGHT handed. When you are the Phillies, with their VERY left handed lineup, this is really annoying. I don't like the defensive pacing, to me it feels like everything goes into slow motion when the ball is hit on a line in the infield so they can use "big play" animations. Pitchers field WAY too many balls, and the baserunning, while interesting, is WAY too complicated and distracting. All of these things would have been ok by themselves, but combined with the Passed Ball / Wild Pitch issue (if you haven't experienced it yet, you will...I didn't think there was a problem the first couple of nights either) have made the game difficult for me to play. I'm not willing to hold my runner everytime, and it is just not realistic. It is almost like they modeled the pitching off of 8 or 9 year old little leaguers who throw every other pitch to the backstop in a pressure situation. Very poor quality control, because I can only hope that it wasn't a conscious decision to include this in the game. Who could possibly think that this makes the game more fun?

I picked up MVP on Monday morning after a frustrating weekend, and I haven't put MLB back in the XBOX. Other than the presentation and commentary, pretty much everything about MVP feels more like baseball to me. I've been playing on and offline pretty much nonstop the last couple of nights, and I haven't seen anything that I don't like so far. I played MVP last year, and while they did use the same engine, the gameplay is MUCH tighter and frankly, the game is really fun. Hitters eye is a great innovation, it finally gives you more of a realistic look of the difference between facing a lefty or a righty, and the ability to move in the box is basically the same as guess pitch in MLB...you just wait until your opponent goes into their pitching motion and guess inside or outside to cover your weak areas. My one gripe about MVP is that the ball is too small when you are trying to field a ball on the ground in the outfield, and I have missed it for no reason because I just couldn't see exactly where it was on a couple of occasions. I wish they had made the ball a few pixels bigger for defensive purposes, although it may be just me.

I own both games for now, and if they issue a patch for MLB in a timely fashion that tones down the WP / Passed Ball issue I will give it another trial period, but if you are only going to buy one game for the XBOX this year and you haven't made the choice yet, IMO the best decision you could make is to pick up MVP.

I can't freakin' believe that my favorite Football and Baseball titles from this season aren't going to exist next season, but that is a whole other topic...
