    Oh baby what a game!

There's so much doom and gloom in this sub-forum that I thought I should bring some positive vibes to it.

I just got done pitching a 3 hit, 12 K shutout of the Phillies in my GM career with the Nats. I was Tony Armas and let me tell you it was FUN! Armas ran out of gas around the 7th inning so I had to mix up my pitches a bit more. A couple times I thought i'd lose the shutout.

In fact, despite the dominance of the pitching line it wasn't boring. There was an inning in the middle of the game where I faced the heart of the Phils lineup and my controller was shaking a bit.

I've seen the passed ball/WP bug a few more times now but it hasn't dampened the fun i've had so far. I think this is a very fun game. (I dunno bout great game but it's pretty good) I"m basically playing out of the box so when/if the game gets too easy i'll bump up the difficulty.

So why don't you tell us about some of your best games while playing 2k5.

Re: Oh baby what a game!

I've gotten really absorbed in every game, and like you, I'm not seeing the passed ball bug. Do I get one a game? Yep, but did have a game with none. Once I got two, but I can live with that for sure.

Had a game the other day where I robbed back-to-back homers with leaps at the wall. It works really good. Hoffman came in in the 9th, 5-2 lead, gave up a homer and a double but got out of it. Completely immersed in the gameplay.

I've got the fielding down (CPU batting on HIGH view) and the baserunning now (although struggle with it occasionally).

I've stuck with it and love it. I also see walks. I've gotten used to the break of the balls, am reading them now and taking more pitches.

When pitching I'm on CLASSIC and I don't waste any time with the thumbstick trying to hit a corner, just point and pitch (all aids off).

I'm currently creating a ton of real players so that I can start my season. Seems in season mode you can't edit players, so I have to have it ready before I start the season.

good thread and i agree. I'm also having fun with this game. I'm the Pirates and actually got bad news in that i lost Perez to an injury for 50 days. That was a bummer but i'm hovering right around .500 about 45 games into the season (i sim a lot, haven't played every game).

If they could somehow fix the passed ball bug, i'd have no problems at all with this game. I do like how the game plays on the field. It's got a lot of great moments that are only noticed after putting a ton of time into the game. It's those little things that make me keep coming back.

            Yeah,

I'm liking this game a lot as well even given it's issues. I love the different cameras it switches to when you hit/ really immerses you IMHO.

I also really like the graphics and the animations don't bother me, some I really like.

I like how when you are at bat that the ball seems to have some weight to it.

The game is engrossing and the presentation is top notch. A patch will fix the past ball glitch so I'm not worried about it. I just need to get some good sliders to open up the gameplay some. Right now there are too many spectacular plays by infielders. If I can get that straightened out I'm golden.

Re: Oh baby what a game!

I really like this game. I purchased it after I bought MVP, and now I can't revert back due to the awful player models and cartoonish feel. I love the presentation, but most importantly I REALLY like the pace. Games take about 2x as long with respect to MVP, which is a great game also.

The behind the pitcher cam is what I use with Kzone pitching, and it just feels like a duel when I pitch against the CPU. Sure the animations are sub par, but this game has managed to really capture the feel of baseball. I don't think I'll be able to revert back to a faster paced arcade style game again. However, I do intend to give mlb 2006 a shot, which appears to be the middleground between this and MVP.

Re: Oh baby what a game!

As soon as I bought the game, I began playing on AllStar with a few minor slider adjustments. Up until last night, I never thought I was going to be able to score more than 2 runs a game. Then I played a game with the Orioles at Camden Yards against the Tigers.

In the first 2 innings I gave up 6 runs with Dubose. After trailing 6-0 I thought for sure I was done. Bottom of the 2nd I doubled in a run with Tejada and then hit a 2 run HR over right field wall (contact hit) with Surhoff. In the 3rd inning I tied it up at 6, and in the top of the 4th the Tigers took a 7-6 lead. In the bottom of the inning I had a 5 run inning, none off homeruns, to take the 11-7 lead and chase Bonderman out of the game. No dramatic ending, but the game was pretty scoreless thru the middle innings until I finally won it 13-12 in 9th.

It convinced me that YES there is crappy pitching in the game, not only CPU but manually controlled teams as well.

I had an 18 inning game a couple nights ago in my Yankees franchise. I was playing the Rangers, and it was 1-1 after the ninth. Matsui hit a bomb in right center to make it 1-0 in the fourth, but the Rangers tied it up later on. Brown went 10 innings before I decided he was too tired to risk pitching him any further. That was a big mistake. In the top of the eleventh the Rangers got two runs on a gap double, and a couple hits (I think I screwed up fielding one of them, can't remember though). Game over, right? Not even close. Bottom 11, Matsui came up with two outs and a guy on first. I hit a laser down the right field line that just barely cleared the wall. If I hadn't been in Yankee Stadium that would have just been a double (maybe even a single it was hit so hard). Then the real fun started. It became a great pitching duel between the bullpens for the next six and a half innings. By the 16th I just wanted the game to end, though. Finally, in the bottom of the 18th, I loaded the bases on a single, double, and an intentional walk. Ruben Sierra, the goat of the team so far (well, Giambi too), came up and hit a ball right through the hole between first and second. It was finally over- the longest video baseball game I've ever played.

I like this game a lot, and a friend of mine says it's his favorite baseball game ever. The presentation is just phenomenal. I am ignoring the bugs because of all the things MLB2K5 does so well. I just wish it had a more zoomed out fielding view. Lets us see the ball and where it's going, Kush!
