WSB 2K3 Reasonable Additions & Modifications...

I originally made this post on the sega sports suggs. board. Let me know what you think of the ideas, and add your own too.

    Franchise Mode
    -------------------------------
Pitching Rotations - They should be followed, the same pitcher shouldn't be pitching game after game, too many teams #1 pitches 50 games or whatever and the #4 pitcher pitches 10.

Lineups - You do your lineup, play a game or 2, or sim a game or 2, you check again and the lineup has changed itself. The lineup should be saved, it should only change if you actually change it. Plus the CPU teams lineups are just ridiculous, teams will have a guy who's really a lead off hitter hitting 9th, and Bonds will be in the 2 slot. The CPU should manage their lineups better.

    Minors Roster/ Minors Report -
Stats should be kept for minor league players because they play games just like the majors do. We could use this stats plus their ratings to determine if we want to bring up a player or not. This would also be helpful to see how players that are sent down are doing to see if their ready to come back. I'll get to injuries later, but injured pitchers should have to go down to the minors for at least 1 rehab game of pitching before being brought up to minors.

    Roster Management -
There should be better CPU-CPU trades. Arizona trades Schilling, Texas trades A Rod, not realistic, especially when u see who they were traded for. Also a trading block like in NFL 2K3 wouldn't be a bad idea.

Releases HAVE to be able to be done in this game, if you dont want a player you should be able to release him, end of story.

You should also be able to fire coaches during the season, the computer can do it, why can't we?

We should also be able to edit players, not their attributes, but maybe the shoes they wear, batting gloves, bats, socks, etc.

No double numbers, no reason there should be 4 guys on the same team with the #24, let us change their #s.

    The News Screen -
As is its very unorganized and it just looks bad. You should be able to see everything month by month instead of having to scroll down from april to october. You should also able to see injuries and transactions seperately. Another cool "news" type thing would be records set or broken by players, maybe news of a 40-40 player, a player getting his 500th HR. 4 homers in a game, etc.

    Coach Reports -
The main theme is here is more depth...

Managers should say who he feels should be playing or not based on performance, what trades should be made, and possible promotions or demotions to the minors.

Batting coach should give opinions on how all of his players are hitting, if they're doing bad, will it get better or worse, maybe some time in the minors will help them, etc.

Pitching coach same as batting coach but applying to pitchers.

Minors Manager should basically say who should be considered for major league promotion, or maybe who's not cutting it and should be released.

    Scouting Director:
You should be able to designate what parts of the world you want your scouts in, and it shouldn't be just easy to get a player, for example, if you find a player playing in Japan for say the Yorimuri Giants or something, you should have to "buy out" their japan contract before you can get them.

This note on the minors, I don't think this a must, BUT, I think all teams should have a AA and AAA club. Because when you sign the 18, 19 yr old prospects, they actually go to single ball or a little higher, they wouldnt just go straight to AAA and definitely not straight to the major leagues. This isn't a must, but if you're just gonna have a AAA team, some of the players on the AAA team should be there for a couple seasons before they'll even be competitive in the majors.

Lastly, you should be able to switch teams in the middle of a franchise mode, I can play a couple seasons as a team, but after a while it gets tiring, why have to start a new franchise, we should be allowed to switch teams in the middle of the franchise.

    On The Field
    ------------------------------
Before the game when picking teams, instead of showing the hat under the name and logo, you could show the jersey of the team, and here's where you pick what jersey the team is going to wear. The choices should be the current jersey, 1 or 2 classic jerseys (home and away), and a alternate jersey if the team has one like the blue Cubs jersey or the black White Sox jersey.

Once the game starts, more pregame analysis talk about how the teams are doing (season/franchise mode), maybe if its a divisional game show the standings for the division, highlight where those 2 teams are...

    Camera Views -
The views should be the standard views that were included in WSB, a behind the pitcher view (hasn't been done since the Hardball days) where you see behind the pitcher, the batter, catcher, and umpire, plus the backstop, crowd, etc. Maybe a batter view from the batters eyes or a catcher cam type view...Personally I'd like to see the game played a little closer to the field so the players look big, like they do in the nba, nfl, ncaa games sega sports does.

    Other Recomendations
    ----------------------------------------
-Better ball physics so there's more varied hits, as it is now the hits seem to go to the same spots on the field. Wild throws to bases, every throw is right on the money, throws from 3rd to first, SS to 1st, don't even bounce.

    -There should be broken bats

    -More fielding animations

-More collisions, for example when the runner goes into 2nd base on a double play or something, he seems to slide right through the body of the 2nd basemen/shortstop.

-More errors, including throwing errors, the ball goes from fielder to fielder, always in the air, the ball never bounces, or goes wide, or too high, or too low.

-Injuries should occur during games, they could happen due to a collision, Hit by pitch, etc.

-Players should get dirty from sliding, diving plays, etc.

-More on the field celebration, players giving fives after they've crossed the plate, or a when a guy cross the plate from hitting a homerun maybe he signals to the sky like Bonds, or Sammy's signature thing. When players go to the dugout, they shouldnt run into that invisible wall before the steps. More movement going on in the dugouts.

-You should HAVE TO warmup your pitchers before you bring them into the game.

-After a pitch, the catcher should throw the ball back to the pitcher, the pitcher doesn't have a bag of ball at the mound or something.

-Manager, play argument on close calls, bad pitch calls, etc.

-Interactive scoreboards that actually show the real score of the game, maybe who's batting or something. All the other sega sports games do it, even NCAA 2K3, this one should too.

-I think the players look fine, but I dont see the point in having players heights and weights as everyone looks the same height and same weight, but they shouldnt. David Ortiz doesn't have the same body as Fernando Viña, so why should he in the game? Also, it seems all the latino players if they dont have their face scanned are given that same standard face and its awful, (I'm dominican, have to point this out) Albert Pujols looks like Fernando Viña who looks like Luis Matos, etc. Thats terrible, get everyone's face in the game, even if its not exactly dead on.

-Less repetitive announcing, and fix announcing errors like after you win game 1 of the world series the guy says you've won the world series, you lead the series 1-0, thats just bad. The color guy should talk a little more too, sometimes you hear him 1 or 2 times a game.

    -Better/Harder A.I.
The computer sometimes has doubles and leaves them as singles, they could score sometimes from 2nd on a single but always stop at 3rd. Another thing, the best players in baseball, you dont fear them when they come up, Sosa, Bonds, they've never hit a homerun off me, the good hitters in the game should just be better to the point where if you make a mistake, they will beat you. I've never intentionally walked anyone in the game because you can get everyone out.

-Better replays, you hit a double off the wall, now all the replay shows is you hitting it, then to where the player gets it off the wall and thats it...maybe something better like he hits it, and then the camera follows his run to 2nd base or something along those lines, bottom line, better replays.

-Also...I feel this is a must, better game celebrations. Every sega sports game, after you win, the teams just walk off the field and thats that, doesnt matter if its opening day or game 7 of the world series you've won or the super bowl or fiesta bowl, whatever respective sega sports game you're playing, they just walk off. For WSB 2K3, I'd like to see something like after the winning team gets the 3rd out, they do their lineup in the infield and shake each others hands like they really do after games or if a team scores the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th, or bot. of 12th whatever, there should be a celebration around the plate. Something, not just teams walking off the field, thats just boring.

    ESPN
    --------------------------
Slapping the ESPN logo on everything is cool, but the game should be presented how ESPN presents a game, For example, in the middle of the game game breaks for a update of another game. Or after a good pitch or a foul ball, maybe called 3rd strike, show the ESPN K Zone, where it zooms in on the strike zone and shows exactly where the pitch was, or after a strikeout sometimes replay the pitch sequence real fast like they do. If a player hit a homerun last at bat, or a RBI double, maybe show a quick replay of that the next time they come to bat or later on in the game just to recap how the score has gotten to where its at...its great to put the ESPN logos on the game, but its not really ESPN if its not presented the way ESPN presents their games.

These are just a few of my ideas lol...WSB was good, but WSB 2K3 could be incredible...I can't wait to see what tehy do with it, maybe we can help out with good ideas...

Seeing as how it's now October, and they have most liikely already gone alpha, I'd say you're about 6 months too late with your list.

Gotta get your stuff in early so they can budget time and plan it all.... that stuff all probably takes a long time to implement, test, etc....

        Just FYI.

You know full well we don't start development until we get a list of ASB's features to copy.

Let's not start this debate again!

Hey FatPitcher - can you "leak" anything about the next WSB to us? Any new features, gameplay modifications/improvements, etc.

            Thanks,

            Kevin

Shouldn't you be busy scripting hit locations or something? No need to stalk me from WSB thread to WSB thread with your witty little quips when you've got plenty of work to do on your game.
