MLB 2k5 batting questions
any tips on how to hit the ball in this game? I always hit it but it either goes right to the cpu or pop flies and the cpu catches it everytime. what am I doing wrong? Im using true aim. when the ball is pitched down left I push the stick down left and hit. is that wrong? if it is pitched up right, I press up right and hit. when I put the stick to the left it goes to the right. whats going on? is this the wrong way of doing this or whats going on? some tips and pointers please. teach this n00b how to hit the ball. its getting fustrating and becoming unplayable cause of this.Tags: None -

Originally posted by Throatwobblermangrovethis game is mostly unplayable. My only suggestion would be to turn up your contact and power sliders. Or just not swing at anything and eventually get on base b/c of wild pitches.what brings you to such an informed comment?
As far as your comment on "don't swing at anything and you'll get on due to wp/pb",have you bothered to check the passed ball thread? because if you did,you would not be making such misinformed comments.
Does the game have problems, sure it does, but what you chose to comment about has NOTHING to do with what the original poster is asking.
*topic* I also use true aim and have not had that many problems,I think the key is all about patience, when you say "you aim right and it goes left" I've found that it has alot to do with the type of pitch being thrown, for example.....what I usually do is BEFORE the pitch is thrown I usually aim where I want to TRY and hit,(don't know if this is the proper way,but so far it's working for me) and if I see that I have aimed wrong I will let go of the aim and hope for the best.
I am under the understanding that you are to aim and swing at the same time, for some reason I've found this to be very awkward.
The last thing I can recommend is don't aim at all, when the pitch is thrown just swing as you normally would, only don't aim with the stick.
I've been testing this out with pretty good results,It seems I'm getting more hit variations, bloops over the middle, gap shots and so on.
If you're having trouble seeing the ball or spotting try turning down "pitch speed" and see if thast helps, also one last thing,I would ckeck out the slider threads as there are some really good slider sets available, and tweak to your liking.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: MLB 2k5 batting questions
thank you for your post *the 2nd post*
with the aiming. is it pressure sensitive? where can you aim? everywhere in the strike zone like the "guess pitch" or is it like up, upleft, down, downright and so on. im not talking about the guess pitch *batters eye* thing before the pitch. im talking about when the pitch gets there.. like..
ok.. example.. if the pitcher throws the ball a little high to the right, where do I push on the left thumbstick? do I push the thumbstick upright for the right aiming? is it pressure sensitive so that I only move it a little? thats all Im having problems with. I seem to be hitting the ball on the wrong side of the bat making it going certain directions. and hitting pop flies.. if that made sense to anyone.
and is the aiming on the thumbstick where I want to hit the ball? or am I aiming where the bat will be in the box? what ever happened to NES style baseball where if I want to hit it left field I will push upleft? hah..Comment

Re: MLB 2k5 batting questions
Are you hitting A or B to hit? I've found using power (I think B) results in a lot less hits. I exclusively use contact swing and have excellent results with hitting it to the gaps.
I would also recommend trying some HR derby for practice. They'll pitch it right down the pipe every time so it will give you a chance to get used to how to hit. You can use B sometimes there but A will give you very good homers too.Comment

Oh, and re: the funky swings that don't go where you aimed. I think that usually has to do with your swing being mistimed. Sometimes when I'm way out in front of a changeup I'll notice the bat going above or below where I aimed. I don't think it's much of a problem, since you probably woudn't make contact on a swing like that anyway.Last edited by bcruise; 03-10-2005, 10:56 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 2k5 batting questions
so if a pitch is pitched a little high and to the right or something like that all I do is tilt a little pressure towards it? and the left thumbstick is just where the bat is going to go in the strike zone? k I think im getting it. any pointers to where I should hit the ball if its high / low? imma baseball n00b. this game looked fun and it was only 20$ so I said "why not" heh.
and when I was talking about my aiming not going where I wanted it to go. I wasnt talking about my swing. I was talking about when I hit the ball and where the ball goes. I thought if I push the thumbstick like up-right it will go far and to the right. like in old timey baseball games heh. going have to get used to this. making the ball hit exactly where I want it to on the bat heh.Last edited by xinside; 03-10-2005, 11:51 PM.Comment
