Testing the player name data base

Here’s a quick and easy way to find out which names are in the announcer (John Miller) data base, as some names he says and some he, well, doesn’t.

Save a roster as RosterNames or whatever and use that. The only player you will need to use is your #1 starting pitcher, so I just edited this roster and assigned the first pitcher at the top of the list (it’s alphabetical) as my #1 starter. Save this file so you can use it whenever you have a name to test.

Now: change his last name (obviously). Don’t bother saving, just go start a Situation Mode game with your team as the visitors. Set the “Outs” to 2. When the game starts, take three lame swings with your batter and the side will be retired.

Now don’t touch those buttons. The between-inning cut scenes will start, showing your renamed pitcher warming up on the mound. As he’s getting ready, John will ALWAYS either say his name or, if the name is not in the data base, his number. This whole process takes less than a minute.

And I keep a file on the CPU with the names he says and doesn’t say. Example: he says Abernathy, Cable, D’aimco, Easley, Fair, Gagne and Ha, but not Baerga, Gibson, Jackson… etc. Makes it a lot easier to only have to do all that once.

When I was doing my roster and changing the names of the fake players to real players I was amazed at the names in the data base. Trenidad Hubbard was even in there, and, yes, their names are said by Miller.

That’s why I said “quick and easy” ;-)

You know, I’m always amazed at the replies these edit threads get – as if spending time “playing” the game is somehow more understandable and sane or something then spending time “editing” the game. I haven’t had a TV (reception or cable) in 5 years. The last World Series (or Super Bowl) I watched was 1999. That frees up a LOT of time, believe me ;-)

Do you play the game by feel? Or do you listen to the sounds the PS2 makes while its accessing the disc and go by that?

"IT JUST WENT CHICKCHICCCCCKRRRCHICK... I JUST HIT A WALKOFF HOMERUN!"
I creating Ryan Langarhans and put him in the braves roster, but not only my entire braves roster changed but other teams roster changed too. Why is that. Now if the braves or other teams trade or sign players, there will be no point for chsnging it. If u don't have online like me, u be sad too.

Funny... :-) No television RECEPTION or CABLE in five years. Xbox and DVD's only.
