    Sloppy player ratings programming?!

Love the game. Nevertheless, I've been flabergasted by how off some of the player ratings are in this game, especially the bench guys. Example: one guy on my team stole 4 bags in 500 MLB AB's, and his Speed rating is 78. Another benchwarmer stole 12 in 140 MLB AB's, and his Speed is 63 (?!)

It's one thing to get the scrubs wrong. But then I started reading an article on Sportsline about Adam Dunn, last year's Strikeout King. So I check his and other players' last year's stats against their ratings in the game:

Dunn -- real life: BB 108, SO 195; game ratings: BB 93, SO 21
Bellhorn -- real life: BB 88, SO 177; game ratings: BB 84, SO 21
    Blaylock -- real life: BB 75, SO 149; game ratings: BB 43 (?!), SO 35 (?!)

Now, there are tons of players with very low BB ratings and very high SO ratings, so what gives here? Is this just very sloppy programming, or maybe these ratings don't really matter when it comes to game play? Maybe it's for sim-game purposes or something? Guess that's something else I'm going to have to test...

I think you have the ratings backwards.... the higher the SO rating for a batter the harder they are to strike out... hence expect guys like Ishiro, Pierre, etc.. to have high SO ratings.. guys like Dunn to have low SO ratings... 21 is a low SO rating, meaning Dunn will strikeout a lot.

Also speed determines their fielding speed not stealing speed. If you want to control the stealing speed there is a steal success rating, well it was in last years game.

Yeah he's right your reading the ratings backwards, the higher the SO rating for a batter the harder to strike them out. The higher the walk rating the more walks they get.

Thanks guys, but does it make sense? The P ratings are the other way around -- low strikeout numbers mean the P doesn't strike guys out. You would think low strikeout numbers for a position player means he doesn't strike out often...?

Well they are going by the assumption the higher the number the better. They probably thought by making a low number mean being better would confuse people.

steal rating is more about getting the jump than running. Casey has an 80 something in steal cause that's his steal success is great, but he doesnt do it often and is very slow. his speed is 34. take off to steal a bag with him - gunned. now take off with Preston Wilson. 95 speed and only about a 50 in steal. take off with him - success! it's a combo of the two that determine it.
