How's this for a horrible loss in the ALCS!!

Let me set the stage for you here. Game 7 ALCS I'm the Red Sox vs Yankees. I hit a HR off of Rivera in the 8th with Renteria to take a 4-3 lead. I bring in Foulke to close it out in the 9th. First batter is Matsui, he hits the second pitch deep down the line and the camera switches to the Long Foul Ball Angle, im hoping it hooks foul but it doesn't and its not a HR either, the ball hits the wall and now I cant see where the ball is to pick it up since the camera doesnt switch in the mean time Matsui comes all the way around to score on a INSIDE THE PARK HR and tie the game at 4-4. Now Foulke's confidence is all the way down the controller is vibrating like crazy and the next batter rips a ball into left for a basehit. Next man up is Tino Martinez, I get to 0-2 on him and try to blow him away with a high fastball but he turns on it and crushes it into bullpen, to give the Yanks a 6-4 lead. I bring in Mantei and he gets the next 3 guys 1-2-3. We go to the bottom of the 9th and Riveria sits me down easily and the Yanks go to the world series and Matsui is named Player of the Game because of his B.S. Inside the Park HR/MLB2K5 foul ball camera special!!!! As you can imagine I'm pissed!!

naaah man, thats the old sox. they need to program for the new sox, that stuff shouldn't be happening to us anymore! thats brutal, i think I saw that game a few years ago.

seriously though, is it me or is matsui the most dangerous man is that lineup? he's killin me every time I play The Evil Empire.

Ive yet to have the "not HR-but not foul" play yet with that camera angle, that sounds dicey. its hard enough to dig out the ball in those corners anyway even when you can see whats going on....

        Camera didn’t switch? That’s BAD.

Now, for the future: all those Long Foul Ball Angle shots are mostly a result of AI Skill being too high. Since I dropped mine to 50 and below, I seldom see that cut scene, and when I do it’s almost always a soft-to-medium hit foul into the stands half-way down the field or along the ground in foul territory, and not a “JUST foul!” sky-high screamer.

With AI skill lowered, there are tons more realistic hits, including many foul balls that are C, 1B and 3B catchable. The long fouls now tend to head into foul territory 250 feet down the line, so you get a cut scene of the LF or RF guy going for the grab. In all, I’ve seen maybe six new foul ball cut scenes that I never saw when AI Skill was way up around 80-90. Just crank up AI Contact and move AI Skill down.

            Dogg,
Matsui tears me up all the time but Jeter just absolutly just destroys me. He had 5 HRs in the ALCS aganist me.

With AI Skill @ 50, I'd set AI Contact @ 75-85 and Power @ 40-50. It depends on your skills and what you consider a decent sim experience. I've got AI Skill @ 20 and AI Contact @ 95 right now, and that's because I feel the batting ratings in this game are juiced. So they strike out more and don't get all those auto-hits in the gaps (AI Skill "creates" CPU auto-hits). That's balanced out by my own lack of skill in fielding the ball ;-) and the fact that I don't have Fielding Lock on, which creates a lot of dropped fly balls if I'm not super careful.

                    Baa,

I experimented last night with similar settings (Skill @ 50, Contact at 70, Power at 40).

I noticed way too many homers and strikeouts. Are you seeing anything like this? I was also seeing alot of those pathetic little basehits that roll intop the outfield and stop.

Part of the problem with all this is there are so many variables. Example: I have the AI Corner and AI Change Location sliders lowered to 20 to cut down on the dribblers and to give me a decent chance at telling balls from strikes in order to make contact (my User Contact slider is @ 30).

I’d say your AI Contact slider needs to go up 10-15 points, otherwise you’ll be striking out the CPU too often as you’ve already seen. For me though, I get maybe 7-9 K’s a game when pitching, and I strikeout 7-9 times batting, so I call that even :-)

I’m not sure about the HR problem you’re having. I found AI Power @ 40 to be a bit low power-wise. 45-50 is where I’d tell people to put their AI Power slider, but again I suppose it depends on other things, including how many pitches you’re leaving over the plate ;-) But my guess is part of it is that AI Skill isn’t low enough for you. The lower you drop it, the fewer HR’s you’ll see – and the more K’s of course. So why not try AI Skill @ 40 and AI Contact @ 90 – something like that – and see if that makes a difference?
