Why people clown this game?, i think it is one of the best out there

People seem to think it is a ARCADE game, but i guess they don't know that it isn't. i found some sliders in the 2k5 site and holycrap it made the game play like true baseball. games where you get scores like 4 to 3 with each team doing no more then 7 hits. i dunno how to explain it but it just feels right, the other games seem ok MVP sort of fell off since EA say forget it after 2k killed it. but i have yet to play MLB 2006 but it looks like a ASB + MVP HYBRYD but i dunno if it is do.

anyways, people need to stop clowing MLB 2K5. i think VC/KUSH will put a stronghold next year when they use the MLB license to the max.

    Joe,

I agree. It took some slider work and some testing by guys on the site to try to iron somethings out. It also took some individual patience with the running game/fielding cameras that certainly paid off for me. I honestly thought, when I first cranked the game up, that I would NEVER be able to get a hold of the running or fielding, but it's second nature now.

There have been things wrong with all the issued games this year. Just depends on what you can tolerate. Some people can't tolerate the minor stuff and will never be able to enjoy a (this) game, and that's cool.

I remember last year Knight and I edited EVERY PLAYER in ASB, but, at least Knight and I agreed, when we got done it played a fine game of baseball.

This game only gives me a few gripes with a lack of some sliders, like a Foul Ball slider, a CPU Baserunning Speed slider, and a Jump/Dive Effectiveness slider. Otherwise, I can't really find much reason to complain about this game... not much reason at all.

It took me a while to appreciate the game.... But i have to agree that it's the best baseball game of the year. Or probably the best since High Heat 2004.

Hi sask – A lot of settings are individual preference. As far as the sliders that (I think) matter:

True Aim hitting / Classic pitching; Custom difficulty with Throwing sliders @ 50 –

                            Batter Contact 30
                            Batter Power 45

                            Runner Baserunning Speed 30
                            Runner Stealing Success 0
                            Fielder Speed 45
                            AI Fielder Speed 45
                            Pitch Speed 40

                            AI Skill 20
                            AI Contact 90
                            AI Power 45
                            AI Take Strike #’s 35 35 30
                            AI Take Ball #’s 65 65 60

                            AI Corner 10
                            AI Change Speed 90
                            AI Location 10
                            AI Throw Strike #’s 40 35 45

Notes – These settings are for default rosters (which I never use anymore :-) And keep in mind that all of the following is IM humble O:

First, these sliders will produce a lot of strikeouts and more ground balls – which is the way I like my baseball. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if I get one hit in an inning I need to know I was responsible and not my jacked-up settings :-)

Tweaking them and upping the challenge is easy and one of the reasons I set them up like this. You could call this my “Rookie” difficulty setting. To increase CPU hitting just bump up in increments: AI Skill by 10 and AI Power by 5, for example. The other thing is you can create, save and load settings based on the team you’re playing. I might use these Base settings when playing an offensively and payroll-challenged team. But playing one of the eight teams that always end up in the playoffs, I’d have a set with AI Skill @ 40 or even 50, and AI Power @ 55, etc.

And all that’s just for CPU hitting. You can also increase the CPU pitching difficulty in the same manner. Just raise AI Corner and AI Location by 10 each, depending on the (team) pitching you’re facing. It makes a huge difference in the look of the pitch: the higher those two sliders, the harder it becomes to distinguish balls from strikes. I feel that’s more realistic and gives the game play more of a sense of continuity than simply raising pitch speed.

Second, I have yet to resolve the base runner speed and stealing discrepancies with default rosters. Position players with speed ratings in the 20’s and 30’s are simply unrealistically slow and get thrown out at 1st too easily. Yet players with speed ratings in the 70’s and up can steal bases at will. And simply bumping up the Runner Baserunning Speed slider makes the fast guys too fast when running around the bases – I’m talking visually and esthetically here as much as anything… an important part of my editing ratings.

I simply raised any position players with a speed rating in the 20’s or 30’s by 20 points. Plus I bumped up selective high end guys to make more players in the 80’s and 90’s. With the base stealing, someone here mentioned raising AI Throwing Aggression into the 60’s, and the C will then throw out more runners. I haven’t tried that yet, but if I raise that slider above 10, the RF throws out too many guys on their way to 1st, so…?

Personally, I generally like what I’m seeing with the edited speed ratings and sliders I have. What I did the other day was test the Throwing sliders created from Legend difficulty (much higher C Throwing strength) and nobody stole anything. So that’s the answer for me, and I plan to create a Custom slider set from Pro difficulty, and maybe even higher.

FYI: I’m working on fielder ratings right now, which is why I’m not too concerned with C Throwing at this time. In general, I’ll say the average-to-below-average fielder in this game needs their fielding ratings – including Arm Strength and Accuracy – lowered by 50%. First, this gets rid of 50% of the “Diving grab!” infield plays that drive me nuts. Honestly, the players start playing and looking like MLB fielders and not mutant elasti-men. It also makes the defensive specialist bench players very valuable. If it’s late innings and I’m winning a close game, I have to consider putting my defensive backups in the game, because the offensive SS with the 27 Arm starts to become a liability.

There’s a ton of other stuff, but I’ll stop now.
