Confidence

I've has several players drop into the red and actually have zero confidence when they bat. Does confidence make any difference in this game and is it worth benching a player with low confidence ? Will a players confidence increase with a rest on the bench ? What are peoples views on confidence in this game ?

The major things that I've seen with confidence are with pitchers... even when they're batting. If they have a lot of confidence, sometimes they will hit very well.

IMO, it's really hard to raise a player's confidence. I suggest you just keep them in. It does affect them, no doubt. To what extent? I do not know.

Confidence affects players by either giving them a slight advantage or disadvantage in whatever they do. If they have a high confidence, they'll be able to hit better, field better, etc. Since the confidence meter is affected by how well the player is doing, and high confidence makes the player perform better, it starts feeding off itself which causes certain players to be hot. This also works in the opposite direction; a player who has low confidence will perform worse, causing their confidence meter to stay low, making them cold. But confidence is only one of the many factors, so it's not a HUGE crisis if a player is low in that department.

For pitchers, their confidence is probably more important than anyone elses, as they get more action in the game than any other player. So it's more noticable. (Mound visits help boost confidence a little bit for the pitcher, in case you didn't know.)

As for leaving a player on the bench; that's up to you. If you are playing franchise/gm mode, individual player's confidence will be affected by how well the entire team is performing. So a benched player will gain confidence if his team is winning and lose it if his team is losing.

The confidence meter definately needs work next year but it is a solid starting ground.
