Questions before trading MVP for 2K5

I've been playing MVP for the last three years and I have to say, this years version really is a great game of baseball. But honestly, I feel like its not really that much different than last years version and I've found myself already bored with the game. I'm thinking about trading it in for 2K5, but I wanted to ask you guys on the boards here for your input first.

First: I like a good "sim" baseball game as much as you all do to and I was wondering how realistic the batting stats are when playing the game on the default slider settings. I absolutely hate "tweaking" sliders and usually play games on the next to the highest difficulty level. How are the batting stats right out of the box without any slider adjustments?

Second: I've heard about the "passed ball glitch", but I also heard that there is a fix for it. Has the slider fix for this been confirmed now? If so, are there any other major glitches that have been unearthed? I absolutely loved College Basketball 2K5 this year (best sports game ever) but it was one glitchy game, which has scared me away from the 2k5 series a bit.

Third: There are various modes of hitting. I'm kind of intrigued about going back to a cursor mode, which I haven't done in years (MVP doesn't have one) but always liked. I absolutely hate the batting interface in MVP, even though I get realistic stats with it. I just want something different. But in 2k5, do all of the batting interface options lead to similar offensive stats, or are some of them make it easier to hit and lead to bloated stats?

Thanks for any help in answering these questions. I really appreciate it.

Too easy out of the box but since you will need to get used to the batting system, at first, it might be "just right" but once you get used to it, batting will become too easy

Not sure about a slider fix as all I do is just "not" advance my runner

There is only 2 batting modes, the cursor or MVP-type one. The cursor one is pretty hard and people have gotten realistic results from it

Interesting. So the game's hitting is too easy right out of the box, but you said that cursor hitting is much more difficult. So does that mean that cursor hitting leads to pretty realistic results on the higher difficulty levels without having to change any sliders?

Oh man, I forgot to ask this one, but is there a way to go to one button hitting in the cursor hitting mode? I've always hated the power button/contact button thing and much prefer just having a single swing button with the power determined by the statistics of the hitter.

First the passed ball problem is definitely fixed by setting the AI ERRORS slider to 45-50. There's no reason to play the game and just not advance your players when it is actually fixed.

There are sliders addressed in the sliders forum and the settings can be saved once you find your style. I found that AllStar wasn't too far off for me, but I still like to fool with the sliders.

You don't have to use the power button to hit homeruns.

It's a good solid game, but I would suggest you go with slider tweaks.

Please get your facts straight. True Aim hitting is absolutely nothing like MVP's hitting style, otherwise I wouldn't be playing this game. In MVP, your goal is to hit the ball in the direction of where it's pitched. You are trying to make good contact (vs poor contact). In 2K5, your goal is to try to aim and hit the ball where it's pitched... your goal is to make contact (vs no contact).

MVP relies much more on the timing of your swing for contact chance, and 2K5 relies more on your aiming of your swing. If you swing over the pitch (preferrably speaking aiming up on a pitch down the middle), you'll either swing over it, or hit a ground ball. In MVP, you're not swinging over it, but you're uppercutting. So, you'll either hit a fly ball, or if your timing is poor you will swing and miss or hit a foul ball.

The game’s been out for – how long? – and people still don’t know about the fix for the passed ball glitch? That’s unfathomable to me… unfathomable in the same way I find it unfathomable the passed ball glitch got by QA in the first place ;-)

I never trade in my sports games until they’re at least a couple of years old – and therefore basically unplayable compared to what’s currently out on the market. That would be my advice – along with just go buy 2K5 and enjoy.

So does that mean that there is no option for one button hitting and you have to use the power button/contact button interface?

Thanks for all the great answers everyone.

No actual in-game option, but just use the Contact swing with the default rosters and you'll be hitting tons of HR's. Plus there are some one-button swing sliders around here. The Power swing isn't really an effective alternative anyway -- it's just not programmed well very.

True aim hitting is easy right out the box. But cursor hitting is about 100 times harder. You will strike out atleast 15 times a game using cursor on the hardest default difficulty level.
