    Fielding Solution

I like everyone else was tired of seeing the vacumn pitchers who eliminated any balls up the middle as well as the all the web gems, but I wasn't ready to go through and edit all the fielding ratings. Instead I lowered the fielder speed for the computer and myself to 10 without using any speed burst. I have actually been quite pleased with this. The pitchers only get 1 or 2 balls a game and there are now a realistic amount of balls back up the middle, the 3B and 1B field a lot more balls since the P isn't getting to them, and you see a big difference in and OF with range and one without (I can still run things down with Andruw Jones, but Manny isn't going to get to very many). I also am having only 1 or 2 web gems a game. The one thing I still can't figure out how to fix is getting the 3B and 1B to charge on a bunt. That is my biggest gripe with the fielding. You can square around and they don't even move. Ridiculus. Just thought I would mention that I tried this in case anyone else didn't feel like editing all the player ratings.

ummmm no, i went thru and changed all 25 man roster pitchers and it took like 25 minutes thats alot better then making every player in the game look like their running in quick sand, thats ridiculous to change the speed to 10

It's not that I mind changing the P's ratings. I actually have done that for about half the teams (I changed range and anticipation down to 1, but for some reason I was still seeing a lot of balls fielded by the P), but I find that all of the fielders are too good at the fielder speed I was playing at (I had it at 40). The IF gobbles stuff up and the OF are able to rob a HR way to easily. Changing all of the fielder ratings would probably fix this, but I don't have the time to go through and change every player in the game. Not to mention that in subsequent franchise years the new players won't be edited. I just thought I would mention it because for me it has seemed to make the game play better. Others may not like it at all and that's fine, just thought I would throw it out there.

I found the P’s needed all ratings (except Arm) lowered to 15 and below, plus Anticipation lowered below 10; otherwise I didn’t notice much difference. And exactly: the IF-OF ratings are still way too high and need to be lowered as well. That took me a LONG time, but it’s definitely worth it. The fielding stuff you’re describing has been eliminating by maybe 75%. I’ve still got some guys who do the diving stuff etc. – anybody over a 65-70 rating or so – but that’s good. It’s acceptable when it’s just a few players and it only happens once in a while.

I've found that fielder speed at 30 is pretty good for OF getting things they should and stopping some of the gold glove IF.

I lowered all pitchers range and anticipation and it helps a little but I wish it made more of a difference.

My favorite thing that it has done is cause my pitchers to get nailed by batted balls pretty frequently, which cracks me up. I love watching slow motion replays of pitchers getting hit, it really brings back some of the joy that the programmers forgot to put in this game.

All fielding ratings except Arm ratings below 15. and Anticipation below 10 does the trick.

There's plaenty of joy in the commentary -- it doesn't get much better and sometimes funnier than Joe and John discussing someone's horrible swing.
