excited for the update! probably the last big one needed this year so i can finalize my phillies top 30 prospects and get this franchise going.

and martinez has no number yet.. i know he was like #94 in spring training but iirc he wore a 30 something number for most of his minor league career.

Thanks. Yeah, I guess with 24. I did all kinds of searches this morning but nothing came up. Pence has switched to 3...

I will be doing another update on Monday (most likely). Funny, but a number of deals have went down since the 11 am update today. But I'll get everything updated and also do another review of attributes (but I think we're pretty set there). Appreciate the kind words!

I think he's a perfect fit in that lineup. Gives them a righty bat to provide some balance and pitching matchup nightmares come playoff time.

I like Pence (had him on my fantasy team 3 years ago). He cannot carry an entire team, so what Houston did to him was unfair. But in Philly he will probably flourish because the pressure won't be on him...all he has to do is fit in. He can protect Howard in the 5 hole, and they'll sandwich him between Howard - lefty and Ibanez - lefty. Solid move for Philly in a way that might not be for most other teams. He COULD be the best player moved in this deadline simply for the team he's going to...

its great fit for the phillies with the right handed bat but it also is an excellent move for domonic brown. he'll be in AAA where he could get a few weeks to work on what he needs to actually work on. they had him messing with his swing almost the whole time he was in the minors so now that they moved on from that he can work on his fielding. pence is like an utley in the outfield hes going to play hard every single of inning of every single game and in philly its gonna earn him alot more respect from the fans than he got with the astros

Thanks guys for the responses, and not to take this off track, but I agree it was a great deal to snag Pence from our side and it's a nice move to send down Brown and work on his defense. I also believe he'll be recalled sooner than some people think. Do you guys think giving up Singleton, Cosart, and Zeid was too much? IMO, we aren't losing too badly because we already have Trevor May and Brody Colvin (in place of Cosart) to take over for Roy Halladay/Cliff Lee later on, and Singleton was being blocked by Howard anyway.

I'd rather deal a prospect too soon than too late... The Phillies are going to be competitive for quite some time, so prospects (in successful clubs) are a luxury, not a necessity...

Do you think they'll be competitive even in the next few years when Rollins/Polanco/Utley/Howard decline? Victorino is 30 and could be too.

tbh i feel like if there were any prospects id want to give up itd be them. singleton was one of the best hitting prospects in the league in A- ball and then this year with trying to get worked into outfield it seems like it was too much for him. he def wouldnt be playing by time he was ready either with ryan howard blocking him. and as for cosart with the injury problems he had dating back to his high school ball i was always weary of him. and the fact that hes got an upper 90's fastball, a strong power curve but still only struck out around 65 batters in around 110 innings pitched this year. this could always turn around but i feel we got rid of 2 over rated prospects. zeid and the player to be named later are just padding on the deal for me.

we still have may and colvin in A ball who have possible #1 talent and pettibone hasnt been bad either. plus jesse biddle is tearing it up in the ss league. as for the hitting prospects we got valle whos going to be a top 5 catcher in this league and we have a few more 5-tool outfielders in jiwan james aaron altherr and tyson gillies who all have a few raw spots but all have the same player type as dom brown/hunter pence.

in 5 years when all the star power we have now is gone i could see atleast 2 of those outfielders, second baseman cesar hernandez and a few of those pitchers holding the phillies down unless ruben decides he wants a few more all stars next trade deadline =P
